She was a small-town girl with a crush. He was the guy destined to make it to the NFL. Twelve years later, he doesn’t play football anymore, and he’s a single dad.

I had a not-so-secret teenage crush on my older next-door neighbor. Even when he went off and became a Hall of Fame-worthy football player, got married, and had kids, he still felt like the one who got away. But now that he’s back in Brantley Falls, things have changed. Turns out he might have a crush on me too this time, and while I may be setting myself up for heartbreak, I can’t seem to stay away from him or his adorable girls. But how long can we toe the line between friendship and love before I lose my heart to him forever?

My life is falling apart around me. My NFL career, my marriage, my family. No matter what I do, I can’t seem to keep my head above water. Moving back home to Brantley Falls is the new start my daughters and I need. Until Lizzie. The neighbor girl who used to watch me from her treehouse with stars in her eyes has grown up and is still next door. I should stay away. I have enough on my plate. She deserves more than me. But our chats under the stars are a balm to my soul, and no one gets under my skin the way she does. Do I have it in me to go all in, or am I going to let my past hold me back and lose the best thing I ever had?
