She’s the only one who can save him…but this ex-spy doesn’t want her help!

Miss Gabrielle Lindsay, niece to the Duke of Exingham, has done the impossible: turned her privileged status into an unofficial veterinary education—despite the fact that no respectable institution would grant her the title. She’s proud of her skills, respected for her work, and perfectly content with a life spent healing animals. So why then did she agree to help her uncle with his investigation?

Because of the pregnant elephant, of course.

Under the guise of treating an ailing pachyderm, Gabby infiltrates Inverlochy Castle, where Cassian Grey—former spy, current prime suspect—is hiding. Her task? Get close, dig up evidence of treason, and expose his secrets. Simple.

But Cassian is anything but simple. Brooding, sharp-eyed, and far too perceptive, he sees through her charm. Worse, he intrigues her just as much as he frustrates her. His wounded leg and violent past should make him untouchable, yet something in him calls to her instincts—to heal, to understand, to get under his skin. Well. At the very least, his clothes.

Cassian has spent a lifetime keeping people out, and Gabby has never met a puzzle she couldn’t unravel. The question is: which of them will break first?

Warning: Another super-spicy adventure with convoluted schemes and hilarious grumpy/sunshine hijinks from the undisputed queen of historical rom-com
