Azalea Medina has never known the whole truth about her past. Frustrated by her sheltered existence and unable to get answers from the single father who raised her, she decides to take matters into her own hands. Soon she is submitting DNA tests and snooping in her father’s office, determined to find out what happened to the mother she never knew.

Maverick Weaver has loved Azalea for years, but with a career in professional baseball just around the corner, he is (mostly) content with his position as her best friend. Hitting the gym and spending time with her before he leaves are his only worries. Then his mother receives a terminal diagnosis, causing him to question everything he thought his future would be.

Azalea and Maverick find comfort in each other—especially after a night of escapism brings alcohol-fueled confessions. As Azalea searches for her mother and Maverick prepares to say goodbye to his, they grow closer than ever before. Soon they are caught up in a precarious balance between Azalea’s past, Maverick’s future, the friendship they depend on, and the romance that seems more inevitable with every passing day.
