I didn’t think Adam was selfless enough to love another person. Hearing him talk about his ex showed me that he is capable of truly caring about someone other than himself.
The nail in the coffin was spending the night with him on that cursed couch. I woke up the following morning with my head on his chest. The sound of his heartbeat in my ear, so strong and reassuring.
Like he said, Adam is taking my advice. He’s taking better care of himself. He isn’t here around the clock anymore, and I’m guessing he now occasionally sleeps. This has resulted in the most mouthwatering eye candy roaming through the building.
Honestly, how can one person be this good looking?
Whoever said God doesn’t give with both hands never met Adam Grant. Not only is the men sex on legs, he is beautiful, funny, intelligent, kind, generous, has good character and is also a little bit of an enigma.
What the fuck am I doing?
I’m supposed to be talking myself out of liking Adam.
I know what I have to do.
I start pacing back-and-forth in my office, because I have to psych myself up for what I’m about to do.
Adam affects me so much because I’m so inexperienced; because of how single minded I’ve been with my career, and raising Brady as a single mother, I’ve barely had time to date.
I’ve been out on a few dates with one or two guys over the years, but nothing serious has happened. Besides, Adam, I’ve only had sex with two other guys, and neither of them can hold a candle to him.
My problem is that I am horny.
I need to do something about that.
Eugene, Amanda’s neighbor and friend has been asking me out for the past year, but I’ve always turned him down. He’s a good-looking man and seems nice enough, but I don’t particularly find him attractive.
Now is as good a time as any to see if there’s anything there.
He gave me his number ages ago. I saved it but never used it.
I pull up his number and call.
He answers with a gruff, “Hello?”
“Hi, is this Eugene?” I ask.
“Who’s asking?”
“Sorry, this is Kayla. Amanda’s friend?”
“Oh, hi Kayla.” His tone does a complete 180.
“Yeah, hi. How’s it going?”
“Cool, cool… I have to say I’m surprised that you’re calling me.”
You and me, both, buddy.
I laugh. “Yeah, well I was wondering if you would like to get a drink sometime?”
“Really?”
“Yeah.”
“How about tonight?”
I cringe. He’s so eager.
