His eyes darkened with desire, but he shook his head. “Some other day, if you want. But I meant what I said earlier. Today is all about your happy ending.”

She closed her eyes and let the mix of languid pleasure and the heat from Daxon’s body lull her into a rare moment of peace. Was this his plan to get her to come back another time? If so, it was working.

CHAPTER FOUR

“DAXONMILESWISHEDfor you specifically?” Alana asked with a burst of laughter. “Based on your past experience together? Sounds like fun.”

“Notthatkind of experience.” Kendall chuckled. “But definitely fun. And potentially overwhelming, considering his reputation. Plus, he’s even hotter in person.”

The words slipped out of Kendall’s mouth before she could check her tone, almost definitely revealing her current state of client lusting.

“Just about everyone who walks into this place has an ego and a reputation,” said Alana. “If they’re hot, too, why not?” She waggled her eyebrows, like it was no big deal. Maybe it wasn’t.

Alana, one of the Kalani’s chefs, had a few years’ experience granting the wishes that made this resort so famous. Visitors’ wishes weren’t sexual per se, but the wholeFantasy Islandappeal of the resort set the tone for indulgence of all kinds. Kendall looked over at her friend, with her long purple hair and blunt, irreverent style. If anyone could help her navigate hang-up-free casual sex in this place, it was Alana.

Kendall leaned back on her elbows, sinking into the warm sand, and looked out at the ocean, sparkling in the morning sun. Even after six months in Hawaii, she still hadn’t gotten used to this warm and welcoming beach, so different from the ice-cold water and whipping winds of Northern California. But it was time she started to get the hang of the laid-back Hawaiian vibe...and maybe Daxon could help with that.

“Can I ask you a personal question?” she asked. “You don’t have to answer it.”

Alana leaned back on one elbow, facing Kendall, and a smile curved on her lips. “Now I’m intrigued.”

“You ever sleep with a guest?”

“Of course. Sheila must have told you there’s no policy against client-employee relations here.” Then she gave Kendall a conspiratorial wink. “Come on. You can ask me something better than that. Like the best location or more than one at a time.”

A splash of a wave washed over Kendall’s feet, and she flicked some water onto Alana’s bare legs. “I mean someone you’re working with.”

“Only if I think it’s really going to be worth potential complications.”

The day before had definitely felt worth it, especially when she was lying on his bed.

“My turn for a question,” said Alana, rolling onto her side. “Did you sleep with Daxon the last time you worked with him?”

“Nope. Not at all,” said Kendall quickly.

Not at all? What kind of wacky answer was that?

A tiny hint of a smile tugged at the corners of Alana’s mouth. “I’m guessing it wasn’t for lack of interest. But if he didn’t talk you into bed the last time, I’m trusting you’ll be able to hold out for a week. If that’s what you want.”

“It’s too late for holding out,” said Kendall, “though I guess it depends on how broadly you define sleeping together.”

Alana drew a little heart with cupid’s arrow in the wet sand between them. “I hope that definition includes your orgasm.”

“Of course it does,” she said with a smirk. “Daxon Miles seems to take pride in masteringallof his performances.”

“So I’m not seeing the problem.” Alana added a “D + K” to her sand art project. “The guests at the Kalani are used to being the masters of their own domains, and they come here looking for something they still haven’t found. Sometimes it’s explicitly what they ask for, and sometimes it’s not. As long as it involves two willing partners, there’s nothing wrong with that.”

“Willing isn’t the problem.” Kendall dug her toes deeper into the cool, wet sand, waiting for the next wave to wash it away. She had certainly been willing the day before on his bed. It was just so easy to get carried away when he was close, and she didn’t know where that would lead.

“We’re just talking about sex, right? What happened to the new, adventurous version of you?” asked Alana, gesturing to the long, sandy beach that stretched out on both sides.

“You’re not going to talk me out of this, are you?”

Alana shook her head. “I think you should go for it. Besides, you said Daxon Miles is here because of a torn calf. He’s a man who thrives on physical thrills, and if he’s not performing some crazy stunt, all that energy has to go somewhere...”

Yes, it certainly did. Why not be the one who enjoyed his reputed endurance performances in bed? Now that she’d seen what else his mouth could do, well, Daxon was the perfect—

Alana nudged her. “Hey, lady, stop daydreaming about hot extreme sportsmen. The real thing is approaching.”
