“How did I get this lucky?” I whispered.

“I’m the lucky one,” she gasped out as she started to ride up and down my length. We moved like that, together, for a long while before I couldn’t take it anymore. I finally grabbed her bythe waist and lifted her up and down as fast as she could take me until we were both screaming and yelling out each other’s names.

Then we collapsed beside each other. I wrapped her in my arms and held her. The gentle motion of the ceiling fan above us cooling our bodies while the sound of the waves crashing far below helped us drift off to sleep.

CHAPTER SIXTEEN

Jess

I woke up to the sounds of someone doing something in the kitchen. I quickly glanced beside me and saw that Byron had gotten up before I had. I stretched lazily. My God. The night before had been… a revelation.

Byron had woken me up twice more during the night for sex. He’d taken me roughly from behind once, and then later we’d moved sensually and slowly together for what had felt like hours of pure pleasure.

I’d never been so satisfied. Not even close.

Unbidden, thoughts of Skeeter moved in. I thought of all the times I’d been with him at the MC clubhouse and shuddered. He’d never raped me; I could say that for him at least. But I hadn’t exactly been excited about sex with him, either. I just knew it was the life I’d been handed in exchange for making sure Mom was okay. I’d never let her know that, and I hoped she hadn’t already guessed. She was a smart woman, though.

And then there were all the men at the strip club. I’d never had to have sex with any of them. I was so glad that Skeeter’s jealousy had protected me from that. But I’d had to give blowjobs. Lots of them. Even though I mainly danced in the VIP room while the other girls performed the sexual favors, Skeeter would send wealthier community members to me. I was who they’d requested.

Often, he would put me in a separate room before bringing in some bigwig. That’s how I’d come to suck off people who were ‘famous’ around Shitty Wilkins and the surrounding towns. I’d had to be with mayors, school board members, principals, preachers, even some of my former teachers. It was awful at first. Demeaning. And then, slowly, I’d gotten used to it. It had just become a part of my life until I almost hadn’t cared anymore. I just went to a different place in my head and thought about other things.

Skeeter or Zeke would sit in the room to make sure they hadn’t tried to hurt me or force sex on me. After a while I got mainly repeat customers, so I’d gotten somewhat used to them. And I’d known that was just going to be my life. I’d heard Skeeter laughing about how much money I brought in. Money I would never see.

But at least he made sure Mom was okay, and I hadn’t been sold and trafficked. It was a low bar, but I was still thankful.

And now that awful place had been shut down. I was thrilled just thinking about it. All those girls had been saved, and I could only hope that whoever Enzo had brought in would continue to try and recover the girls who’d been stolen and sold already.

I didn’t like to think about them, but I wouldn’t ever forget them. I hoped to counsel survivors of trafficking after I got my degrees and licensure.

But that was a long way away.

First, I was going to enjoy this time with Byron and be grateful that I’d ended up with such a wonderful man. For however long I had him.

And, from the delicious scents coming from the kitchen, I could tell he was a good cook, too.

I stretched again, banishing all negative thoughts and memories as best I could. I just wanted to enjoy being with Byron.

I got out of bed and put on a silky robe. I’d been shocked when I’d explored Byron’s condo and found that Madeline had stocked a huge walk-in closet with an insane amount of designer clothing. I’d found everything from Lululemon to Gucci, and I really could barely even wrap my head around it.

I found some slippers to put on, and then I headed to the kitchen to see Byron.

“You’re up,” he said, smiling at me. His dimple flashed, and I swear he was so good-looking it almost took my breath away. He was shirtless and wearing low hanging gray sweatpants. Because of course he was. His body was… insane. His skin was smooth and brown, his muscles were big, but they weren’t bulky. He was a huge guy, but he was cut. He had to have very little body fat at all.

And he was just as beautiful on the inside as he was on the outside.

I couldn’t believe I got to be with him.

“Yep.” I was dazed almost speechless. “Sorry. I mean, yes. I slept so good last night.” I gave him a shy smile. “When I was sleeping, that is.”

He cocked an eyebrow at me. “I slept well, too. But it was the not sleeping part that I liked the best. By far.” He winked. “So, do you like waffles?”

“Does anyonenotlike waffles?” I walked over and sat on a tall barstool in front of his kitchen island. It was huge, with a workspace on one side and a space for people to eat on the other.

“I have yet to meet anyone who doesn’t,” he said. “Maple syrup or whipped cream and strawberries?”

“Whipped cream and strawberries,” I said, watching with amazement as he poured homemade batter into a waffle maker. Mom wasn’t the best cook. The waffles I’d had growing up were the frozen, store-brand kind.

I looked on the counter and realized that he had the ‘real’ maple syrup. It was the kind from Canada, not the kind you could get for a couple of bucks that was mainly sugar water with maple extract. I’d never had the real kind before.
