Graduation…

“This is it. This time next week, I’ll be Mrs. Carter Eastman.” I beam in the mirror as I check my dress. My eyes flicker to Millie as she stands behind me, straightening my hair.

“First, get through graduation … without me.” She pouts.

I whirl around, wrapping her in my arms. “One year, then you can come join me at my company, and we can rule the world!”

“If your husband allows it,” she grumbles.

I release her with a sigh. “You two have got to cut me some slack. Your bickering is killing me.”

“I don’t like him, and he feels the same about me.” She half shrugs. “I think we’re good.”

I fight the smile playing on my lips. “That’s not good enough for me. I love you both.”

“Then”—she takes my hand as she bats her eyes—“marry me instead.”

“I love you, but no.”

“Why not? Are you vaginally challenged?” Her brow quirks, making me giggle.

“Oh my god. Stop!” I slap at her. “I have one, ditz!”

“Doesn’t mean a thing. Have you ever walked through the two lips?” She wiggles her brows.

I’m stunned silent for a brief second. “Huh? Why are you asking about tulips?”

She rolls her eyes, holding up two fingers. “TWO. T.W.O. Two lips.”

My jaw drops. “Ewe! Shut up, shut up, shut up!”

“Lola, please. We both have them. It’s just me. Spill.” She winks. “Does Carter make your lady bits quiver?”

I cover my ears and take off through the apartment. “I am not talking about this with you, so stop. M’kay.”

“Fine!” She waves her arms in front of me until I drop my hands. “But mark my words—you’re gonna wake up one day and realize he never rung your doorbell.”

My forehead wrinkles. “Why would he need to ring my doorbell?”

“Girl, you’re killing me.”

“Seriously, tell me?”

“Nope! Besides, we need to get going if I’m gonna get a good seat.” She tugs on her leather jacket.

I hold up my pinky, waiting for her. “I swear, I’ll be here next year for yours.”

“You better be, or I’ll never forgive you.” She snags my finger with hers and we bump hips. It’s our thing. All girls have a thing; it’s like ‘guy code’ but better.

“So dramatic.”

“Is now a good time to tell you I haven’t packed yet for the wedding?” She snickers.

“You better get on it.”

She grabs her keys and steps out the door. “Will do! Well, I’ll do that after I get my shoes.”

“You know you’ve bought those shoes already, Millie.” I chase her down the steps. “Millie. Amelia!”
