“All right, but we’ll need someone to remain with Andrews’s body until Finn arrives,” Noah said.
“Agreed,” Greene said.
Noah stepped into the hall. “Macken, can you stay with Andrews’s body until my CSI or Hadley arrives, whoever comes first?”
“Of course,” Macken said.
Greene had Macken sign the chain of custody form instead and directed Noah back to his room.
Noah grimaced as Greene examined his wound. They also needed to review the security footage. He prayed there was something there that could lead them to the killer.
When Dr. Greene was finished, Noah returned to the hall to wait by Andrews’s door.
“Noah.” Hadley nodded as he rounded the corner. “I should have known you’d be here rather than resting.”
“This takes precedence.” And he’d taken the time—however reluctantly—to have his wound restitched and rebandaged. Greene had ordered antibiotics that would soon be arriving from the hospital pharmacy.
“Why am I not surprised.” Hadley shook his head as he entered Andrews’s room. Noah followed while Brooke remained just outside the door.
“Word is,” Hadley continued, “your prisoner’s death wasn’t natural.”
“Word travels fast around here,” Noah said.
“I approach every autopsy the same—without judgment, regardless of what the grapevine says. One clean step at a time.”
Noah didn’t doubt that. Hadley’s work was impeccable.
Hadley rocked back on his heels and turned to Brooke, who was definitely within earshot. “I hope you’re able to get this one to settle down long enough to let his leg heal.”
Brooke smirked and outed him. “He’s on his third set of stitches.”
“Third?” Hadley’s brows rose, and he pinned his all-knowing gaze, or so it felt like, on Noah.
Noah shrugged. What could he say?
Brooke’s eyes narrowed, and her mouth opened.
“Caleb!” Noah said, catching sight of his team member, thankful for the distraction.
“Hey, all.” Caleb slipped his hands into his jogger pockets. “Finn and I were on the phone when you called in. Since Em had some big plans tonight, he asked if I’d mind helping him process the room. I was right down the street at Ringo’s Records, so I’m happy to help.”
“Find any?” Noah asked.
“Yeah. Got Kansas’s Leftoverture.”
“‘Carry on Wayward Son,’” Brooke said.
“Yeah.” Caleb smiled, clearly caught off guard that she knew that.
“What’s our wayward son up to now?” Finn appeared in the doorway, rolling his equipment case behind him.
Caleb crossed his arms. “I’d hardly call me the wayward one of the team.”
“True,” Finn said. “But Logan isn’t here, and you’re next in line.”
Caleb followed Finn to Connor’s bed, sliding on his examination gloves. “And how do you figure that?”
Finn tipped his head in Noah’s direction.
