“I…I…” she stuttered.
Liam stopped, concern filling his eyes. He placed a hand on either side of her and leaned in, until their foreheads were touching. Her heart squeezed again, the simple contact of their skin feeling like the greatest connection in the world.
“Talk to me, love,” he whispered. His voice was raspy, and she could feel the desire coming from it. But there was also something else. Patience. Like he could sense her nerves. “We don’t have to do anything you don’t want to. You call the shots. My feelings will not be hurt.”
“I want to. I want you,” she told him, her pulse starting to race. “I just…”
“C’mere, beautiful.” He slipped his hands underneath her, pulling her to him as he tumbled onto the bed. She landed on top of his hard chest, inhaling his musky scent. Tightening his grip on her, he placed a soft kiss on the tip of her nose. “Tell me, where’s the wee sassy thing that told me she wanted to finish what we started?”
“She’s still here. She’s just also afraid of doing something wrong.”
“You won’t do anything wrong, love, promise. Tell me what you want.”
Avery sucked in a deep breath, trying to find that same bravery that she’d felt at the club, that she had felt last week. She knew it was in her. What she wasn’t sure of was whether or not she was going to be able to use it on command, or if it would always be something that just slipped out of her. One thing she was sure of was that she’d never felt more like her best self—a confident, bold self—than she did when she was with Liam. His kisses ignited something in her that she hadn’t even known was there. It wasn’t just his kisses though. It was him. It was the way he supported her, believed in her. The way he made her feel like she never had to be anything but herself.
The self that right now wanted just one thing—him.
All of him.
Pushing herself up slightly, Avery slid up Liam’s long, hard torso, stopping right as she reached his mouth. She gave him a smile, right before pressing her lips to his, making sure there was no doubt about what she wanted.
“I want to have sex with you.”
Liam responded by closing his arms around her, holding her tight against him and rolling them over, so she was now flat on her back, his large form looming over her. Avery's breath hitched, her gut clenching in anticipation. The fire had returned to Liam’s eyes, and she could tell that despite her awkward declaration, it was what he wanted too.
“Then let’s get it on.”
Chapter Sixteen
Avery burst out into laughter almost as soon as the words had left Liam’s mouth. She’d hadn’t meant to, and she hoped to God that she didn’t kill the mood. But it was hard to take anyone seriously when quoting Marvin Gaye, in the moment or not.
“There’s that beautiful smile,” Liam said, dipping down and kissing her.
Beautiful.
That was the second time he’d used that word since they’d been here. The first time she’d thought he was just saying it—a changeup from calling her ‘love.’ But now that he said it again, part of her was starting to think he meant it.
“You think I have a pretty smile?”
“I believe I said beautiful,” he corrected her, kissing along her jaw toward her ear. “And I think all of you is beautiful.”
A shiver ran down Avery’s spine, just as the rest of her suddenly seemed to heat up. How was it that just a few words from Liam turned her into mush?
He continued to place soft, slow kisses along her jaw, one side and then the other, stopping only when he got to her ear and giving it a little nibble. A moan escaped from her as his teeth gently brushed against her earlobe. She hadn’t even realized that would be a sensitive spot, yet here she was, craving more.
“I’m going to show you just how beautiful you are, Avery,” he whispered into her ear. “I’m going to worship every inch of your body, including getting lost in that sweet pussy of yours. And when I’m done, you’re going to have a whole new definition of ‘feeling good.’”
A shudder ripped through her. Damn, he was good at that. She liked this dirty-talking Liam—a lot. She liked it even more knowing that she was the only one who got to see this side of him. Making good on his promise, he moved down her body, his light kisses turning open-mouthed and purposeful as he reached her collarbone, continuing down toward her chest. He kissed along the deep V of her shirt, while his hand casually glided up underneath. When he reached her breast, he ran his thumb over her nipple, the rough pad on her sensitive skin sending sparks straight to her sex.
“Naughty girl, not wearing a bra,” he said, a wicked glint in his eye. He slid his hand back down, grabbing the hem of her shirt and lifting it up over her head. She raised her arms, licking her lips as the cool air hit her skin.
Liam lowered his head to her chest, forgetting all about that teasing he was just doing. His mouth found her breast, his tongue zeroing in on her nipple, swirling around it in slow strokes. Avery let out a moan, savoring each swipe against the taut peak, as his hand found the other one. Each new movement sent more and more pleasure through her. She’d had no idea that her nipples were that sensitive. Or maybe they weren’t, and it was just that Liam knew some secret she didn’t. Either way, she never wanted him to stop.
He alternated sides, letting his teeth graze lightly over the nipple his fingers had just been toying with. Avery let out a cry, her hands finding the back of his head. Her body began to tingle all over but especially between her legs, and she knew that she was already incredibly wet, just from his oral assault on her breasts. How on earth was he doing this to her?
“My girl likes that, huh?” he muttered, nibbling again.
My girl.
