Avi swiftly drew his hand away then rubbed the back of his neck. He’d only touched Sean one

time before, a brief moment the night Kellan and Vic’s hatchling had arrived. He’d laid his hand on

Sean’s shoulder while reassuring him that everything was okay. The instant spark of attraction, the

yearning to pull Sean into his arms, had been so intense that he’d been dizzy with it. Nothing such as

that had ever happened to him, so all he could conclude was that it had been too long since his ex had

He offered her a tight smile and a quick nod before ambling to his typical booth in the back.

Dora always made sure he had the quieter and more tucked away spot so he could start his day in

peace. There were plenty of emails to go through or tasks related to fire safety to deal with before he

faced everyone at the station. He’d already planned to send the town’s mayor, Chance Knight, what

his recommendations were for the upcoming summer music festival and the Fourth of July fireworks

celebration.

Now I’ll never be able to concentrate.

A couple minutes later, Sean reappeared with the coffee pot, his hand noticeably trembling. Avi
