naked frame and searching for injuries. Avi stilled his hands.
“I’m fine, honey, I promise. I only have a few scratches. Most of this blood is from Finn.”
Sean held onto Avi’s waist but looked past him where a group of large and muscular shifters,
both male and female, were restraining the herd members. Two others lifted Finn’s limp body from
the ground.
“Is he…?”
Avi brushed his knuckles down Sean’s cheek. “Dead, yes.” Avi regarded Kellan. “I’m sorry, I
know he was your brother. But he was after my omega, the egg…”
Kellan shook his head. “Don’t apologize. I haven’t considered him family for a long time. I was
ready to destroy him too.” Kellan wrapped his arms around himself. “ You know, if he hadn’t been
such a vicious bully, then maybe he could’ve led a different life.” Kellan sighed. “But the chance for
that came and went a long time ago. You’ve saved more people and shifters from being hurt by him.”
Vic trotted over and clapped Avi on the shoulder. He glanced at Kellan, pain etched in his
features. “Sweetheart? Are you all right? You don’t have to stay here while we clean up. I can send
you and Erik home with one of the network shifters.”
Kellan gave his mate a sad smile. “That’s okay. I always knew he’d end up like this. That was
his fate.”
Vic mouthed ‘I love you’ then turned back to Avi. “The network needs a statement from us, but
it’s only a formality. They’d already planned on taking Finn and the herd down after the market
closed. They’ve been on their trail for the past day or so. Picked up their scent not more than thirty
miles from here.”
Avi gave him a quick nod then indicated to Erik’s stroller. “Mind if I grab my jeans?”
It was then that Sean noticed that Avi’s and Vic’s clothing were draped over the canopy of the
stroller.
Kellan stepped to the side so both Vic and Avi could retrieve their pants. After Avi had given
Sean a brief, intense kiss, he followed Vic to where several of the beefy shifters were gathered.
Sean turned to Kellan. “Wow, that was intense. What’s going to happen to the rest of the herd?”
“I guess they’ll go before the network jury. I’m sure they’ll be convicted of the zillion crimes
they’ve committed.” Kellan let out another long sigh. “I’ll probably have to testify about my time with
them.” He wrinkled his nose. “Seems like a million years ago.”
