“No,” Adam answered. “But Kane needs her alive.”
“Why?”
“To control us.”
Roth looked toward him.
“That means he won’t kill her until you’re watching.”
The words were cruel.
They were also true.
Roth forced himself to breathe.
Hawk crouched beside the portable unit.
“Aegis sterilized the biological agent.”
“Can it reactivate?” I asked.
“No.”
“Then leave it.”
We moved toward the corridor.
A trail of blood led away from the laboratory.
Not enough to be fatal.
At least, that was what I told myself.
Wynn’s voice suddenly came through my radio.
“Lucas.”
I stopped.
“Where are you?”
“In a rail tunnel beneath Level Nine.”
“What tunnel?”
“Minser found another route to the hangar.”
“You’re with Minser?”
“Yes.”
“Go back.”
“I can’t.”
“Wynn.”
“Kane contacted me. He knows I copied the financial records.”
