Chapter 23
Sawyer
Taking Sol’s virginity had been one of the best nights of my life. We’d had sex four times yesterday. She couldn’t get enough. Neither could I.
And I wish it hadn’t meant so much to me, but the fact that she’d never been with another man, that I was the only man who ever made her come like that, drove me wild. I had an insane desire to protect her, a desire I’d never felt toward anyone but my brothers-in-arms.
Sol and I had made love in the morning and spent the day riding bikes. When we got home, I ran out to grab a pizza. I couldn’t wait to drink a cold beer and chill with my woman.
My woman. I could hardly believe my life right now. Typically, I spent my rare time off hitting the bars, meeting a new woman every night.
But I couldn’t think about anyone else but Sol.
The crazy thing was that I didn’t even remotely miss that life. Sol was everything to me. I missed her when I was away from her even for a few minutes.
“Hey, Sunshine.”
“Hey.” She greeted me with a kiss. She was wearing these short little pajama bottoms, and I wanted to rip them off and devour her pussy.
I popped open a beer. Sol bit her lower lip and struggled to make eye contact. What was wrong? For a second, I thought she was going to break up with me.
“Oh, I’ve been meaning to tell you—I got this amazing opportunity the other week.”
I exhaled, relieved that I’d been wrong. “Congrats. What is it?”
“A manager for some major brands has asked me to fly to Miami and take some pictures for his products.”
I studied her face. “Why do you have to go to Miami?”
“That’s where he’s located.”
He? “Who?”
She took out her phone and showed me the profile of some guy named Vidal Verity. This douche’s Instagram was full of beautiful women in bikinis, on his yacht, and in his hot tub with his arms around them.
Oh, hell no.
Fuck. I’d never been someone’s boyfriend before. I didn’t want to come off as a controlling dick. But I was highly suspicious of some guy wanting to take pictures of Sol. I understood that this was her job, but she was so naïve and trusting. Hell, she flew to Seattle with me without even knowing me.
“When?”
She grimaced. “Tomorrow. Sorry, I knew about this last week, but I didn’t know what was going on with us or if we’d still be dating so I didn’t tell you.”
Well, that was reassuring. But after the stunt Veronica pulled, I didn’t blame her.
She’d followed me around for my job, so I was going to man up and do the same for her.
“That’s fine. I have the day off. I’ll fly you there. I can use my buddy’s plane.”
She shook her head. “No. That won’t work. No significant others allowed.”
My chest constricted. Nope. Not going to happen.
“Well then, you can tell him that you aren’t going.”
Her gaze narrowed at me. “What? This is my job, Sawyer. I’m not a child.”
“No, you aren’t a child. But you’re my girlfriend. This guy could be a rapist. I read about this man once who was scamming models. It’s suspicious that he won’t let your boyfriend go. So, if I can’t go with you, you’re not going. That’s final. You’ll get other jobs.”
