“Go, Brey, before I forget I’m a gentleman,” he said through gritted teeth.
Aubrey took the hint and hightailed it back to her room. The smile on her face could not be contained and neither could the feeling of fluttery excitement that she got every time she was with Will. Dressing quickly, she heard the shower go on in his room next door and grinned, bet it’s a cold one. Pulling her unruly hair into a tight bun, she made her way back to the kitchen and found Drew pouring himself a cup of coffee. She blushed as she thought of him catching her and Will going at it on the patio.
“Hey, Drew, you been here the whole time?” she asked as she grabbed a mug.
“Na, Jace and I went into town, so Lucy could fax us some documents.”
“Fax?” she asked confused that anyone would use that in this day and age.
“Yeah, it’s safer than using email if we’re dealing with another hacker, which we could be.”
“Ah, yeah makes sense,” she replied as she added milk and sugar to her coffee.
Jace, Liam, and Alex came in with Jack behind them as he put his phone in his pocket.
“Any update on Madison?” she asked with a pang of guilt that she hadn’t been thinking of her sister as much as she perhaps should have been.
“Yes, actually,” Jack said as Will walked in and caught her eye, winking at her making her heart jump.
“And?” she asked.
“Blake and Reid retrieved her last night. She was tired and hungry but otherwise unharmed.”
“But how?”
“When Chopper came to escort Will to Rojas, he took his best men with him, what was left was no match for Blake and Reid. They’re flying her home today.”
“Thank you, Jack.”
“Yes, well one of us had to keep our deal didn’t we,” he said sarcastically but with no malice.
Aubrey looked at Will and then back at Jack. “Only one end of the deal was ever achievable,” she answered.
Jack nodded. “Probably true. Now, what do we have on Pierre?”
“Not a lot but I do have a plan on how to get us access to the embassy staff unhindered.”
“Go on,” said Jack with a nod.
“Well, you guys do work with the Palace on foreign travel security, and stuff, don’t you?”
“And stuff,” replied Jack with no emotion on his face.
“Well, what if you were to say one of the royals was thinking of visiting and you needed to check security procedures for her CPO? Wouldn’t they give you access and allow you to run background checks on all personnel in the building and in the last few months.”
“That’s a great idea. You, Alex, and Drew can interview the staff while Liam and I try and get a lead on what Rojas is up to.”
“I’ll run through the digital trail and see what I can dig up,” Will said.
“Luce found this when she was digging through Chopper’s service record. He has a brother down as his next of kin. Nobody knew he even had a brother. She did some digging, and it looks like this brother is a computer genius like Will.”
“Nobody is like Will,” Jack said with pride that made Aubrey smile.
“Yeah, well, the brother studied at St Andrews University but was kicked out under a cloud when he was caught hacking the Electoral database. After that, he disappeared,” Jace finished.
“Do we have a picture or know his signature?” Will asked.
“Not yet but Luce will keep digging.”
