A man who reminded her of her first childish love. One that, up until meeting Will, she had believed had caused her parents death. Yet now she knew what had happened was not her fault, it had been the actions of a group of boys who thought they were men and in their rebellious dance with crime had set fire to her parent’s home.

Will pulled her into a corner of the building away from prying eyes and pinned her against the wall with his body, making her gasp. “Do you really believe it wasn’t my fault?” he asked the uncertainty evident in his voice.

“Absolutely, you made a call. It was a tough one, and you saved a lot of people,” she answered honestly as she revelled in the feel of his body against hers. It had only been a day since they had made love, but she was already addicted to the feel of him. Her pulse picked up, her tummy filled with tiny butterflies and her lips parted as she sucked in air.

“Come home with me. I need you, Aubrey. Even if it’s only so I can hold you in my arms while we sleep.”

“Of course, I want that too,” she said as his mouth moved closer, then she was lost in his kiss. It was gentle and tender and so damn sweet it made her suddenly want to cry.

Will pulled back and saw her tears. “What’s all this?” he asked as he brushed them away with his thumbs.

“I just love you so much, and I don’t want to lose you,” she said embarrassed by her tears and the weakness it showed.

“I love you too, and you make me so happy. I don’t ever want to lose you either, Brey.”

“You won’t lose me, Will. I’m here for the long haul. I wasn’t looking for this, but now I have it I am not letting go,” she said.

“Well, isn’t that just the most romantic speech,” sneered Chopper from where he stood two feet from them with a gun pointed at Will’s head.

Chapter 25

Will turned with his hands raised so that her body was entirely hidden by his.

“You don’t need to do this, Chopper,” said Will his voice calm.

“Shut up. You and your friends took my brother from me, and now I’m going to take away everything from you all,” he hissed, his face a mask of fury.

His face was covered in blood, the sleeve of his shirt ripped—probably from a bullet wound. This was crazy—Chopper was highly trained, he must know that putting himself out here where there were cameras everywhere was suicide, which meant he didn’t care if he got caught.

Will knew if he didn’t get them out of this either he or Aubrey were going to be killed, most likely both of them, and that wasn’t an option.

“You won’t get away with it,” said Will calmly.

“Of course, I will. All your pathetic teammates are inside snivelling over that overgrown monkey,” he said with venom dripping from every word.

Will felt anger for this man’s constant barrage of evil against people he cared about. He watched the gun that was trained on him, Chopper’s hand was steady even in such an emotional state.

“Come on, move. I don’t have time for this, get in the van,” Chopper said motioning to the black van parked at the curb near the A&E entrance.

Will didn’t move as he felt Aubrey grip him tighter. “I can’t do that, Chopper,” Will said as he saw rage cross the other man features.

“Of course, you can, or I’m going to kill that pathetic brother of yours.” Will felt bile fill his mouth at Chopper’s words. No way could he have Jack, could he? Surely Chopper wouldn’t get the jump on his brother. “Move,” Chopper barked, “and you bitch, I could get a bit of cash for you, and since you stole that bitch sister of yours from me, I think you owe me,” Chopper declared.

Not fucking happening thought Will as he tried to think of a way out when it came to him. “Let Aubrey go, and I’ll come quietly. You only have a few seconds before the team are alerted by security from the cameras,” Will said as he watched Chopper’s mind whirl over what he had said.

“Fine, let’s go,” he said waving the gun around.

Will walked forward slowly. “Aubrey, go inside and don’t say a word. I love you, remember that,” said Will as he moved towards the van.

He felt her move, and when he heard the door swish closed behind her, he stepped up and to the van door as Chopper shoved him inside. He fell face first as his arms were wrenched behind his back and zip tied.

The interior of the van was dark, but as he was kicked into the corner, he landed on something, a body he thought, and his gut froze. Urgently trying to move off the body, he twisted to see it—Jack.

His mind panicked until he managed to shuffle closer and saw that despite being badly beaten, Jack was still breathing. His breaths were steady and even as Will put his head to his chest, he realised if he wasn’t mistaken, Jack was awake.

He had no clue what the plan was, but he knew without a doubt that Jack had one and the knowledge made him breathe easier. Will braced his body against the side of the van as it moved away at a fast pace, the driver taking the corners fast, causing him to fall on Jack.

Sitting up again, Will looked to the front of the van as the passenger turned to look at him. He was shocked to see Camila Perez looking at him with open hostility, her pretty over-made-up face a ghoulish mask of hatred. The innocence he had thought he had seen was gone now, and only raw hatred remained.
