With a sigh, I turned in his arms. His lips captured mine before I could speak. I swore, the taste of his tongue would be my demise. I clutched the lapels of his suit jacket and pulled him closer.
When he broke the kiss, too soon, his dark, warm eyes found mine. “What are you doing here?” he asked, his voice so quiet I was reading his lips more than hearing his words.
“Frankie and I are shopping,” I told him. “She mentioned you were in the city. I’ve been thinking about you all day.”
“I've been thinking about you since we met.”
I smiled and leaned into him. The sense of peace that washed over me was a welcome relief.
“Anna’s in the dressing room,” he said as he nuzzled my cheek.
“Frankie will be here soon,” I said back.
His lips pressed against my throat before he released me. And it was just in time. Seconds after I stepped back and looked out the opening to the dressing room waiting area, Frankie walked in.
“There she is now!” My face lit up in a fake smile. “Frankie, weren't we just saying how it’d be funny if we saw Mitch here?”
Frankie’s eyes flashed to mine as her name crossed my lips. They flashed to Mitch and widened as a smile broke across her face.
“Mitch! Oh my God!”
He pulled her into his arms, but his dark eyes never left mine.
“How's it going, darlin’?” Mitch released her. My heart jumped in my chest and my palms began to sweat. Never once in all the times I’d seen them together had Mitch ever not kissed Frankie's cheek. Not until now. I prayed she didn’t notice. Hoped she didn’t think it was because of me.
“I'm good. I can't believe you're here.” She glanced around before looking at Mitch with her eyebrow raised.
Mitch pointed to the dressing rooms. “You just missed her.”
Frankie grimaced and squeezed Mitch’s arm. “How’s it going?”
“Good. Great, now that you're here.” Mitch’s eyes flashed to mine and I couldn’t stop the smile that crossed my lips.
“Ah, you're sweet.” She lowered her voice and leaned in closer to him. “Viv and I were just talking about you at lunch. Corey’s got a game this evening, but I'm staying with him tonight. It’s too bad you're here for work. You could keep Vivian company.”
Mitch looked at me, a barely suppressed grin on his face. “That is too bad.” He pulled me to him, wrapping an arm around my waist. “Maybe some other time.”
“We’ll keep it in mind the next time we go out.” Frankie grinned at me, scrunching up her nose as she laughed. “You can follow us around while we shop.”
“Now there’s an idea.” I smiled back.
Mitch laughed and squeezed my hip. His hand slid low across my butt and stayed there. His fingers made tiny circles against me and I tried not to squirm. “Which hotel are you staying at?”
“The Savory, New York.”
“Yeah?” Mitch’s fingers stilled. “Me too.”
“Really?” My eyes met his as his hand splayed across my ass. “Talk about a small world.”
“If you’re up around three, I’ll probably just be getting back from the clubs.” There was humor in his voice, but I caught the wink he threw at me when Frankie looked away.
“Still a party animal, huh?” Frankie said, her voice low.
“You got that right,” Mitch responded. “Probably be dragging her drunk ass back to her hotel room when the clubs shut down.”
I placed a hand on Mitch’s chest. “You poor thing.”
He shrugged, his dark eyes glimmering as he looked my way. “It’s not too bad. Rather entertaining, if you ask me.”
