“Hi,” she says softly.
“Hi.” I manage a soft kiss to her mouth. “You good?”
“I’m so good,” she purrs. “Was that… okay?”
I don’t answer her, unsure if I really heard her correctly. But I see the honest curiosity on her face, from a woman who clearly has no clue the power she has over me. “Are you serious?” I ask.
“Yeah…”
“Are you fucking serious?” I ask again, dipping my face closer to hers.
Josie laughs and I get my arms under her, roll us both so she ends up on top of me, my arms locked around her waist.
Josie folds her arms on my chest, rests her chin there and looks down at me. A lock of her hair falls forward, covering one eye, and her cheeks are flushed. “I hope the pork roast didn’t burn.”
“I don’t smell anything on fire,” I say hopefully.
“It’s probably fine, but I think if the house was burning down, we wouldn’t have noticed.”
“I should feel guilty,” I muse. “Possibly ruining the dinner you worked hard on.”
“And?” she inquires coyly.
I lift my eyes to the ceiling, pretending to consider the question, before saying, “Nope. No guilt. Ten out of ten recommend that type of sex over eating.”
“We should probably do that again before you leave then, huh?”
I sweep my hands down her back, bring them to rest on her ass. “For sure one more time tonight, and probably in the morning too.”
She lifts a golden eyebrow. “You’re staying the night?”
“Damn straight I am.” I laugh.
I think about staying in her bed. Yeah, there’s going to be more sex, but I’m also looking forward to holding her tonight. I think about Mikhail and Voronin and the upcoming run Marcus and Connie will be doing. I think about the fact that I’m supposed to be at the gallery by ten tomorrow because there’s a London auction house calling, but more importantly, I think about what I’m going to make her for breakfast after we wake up.
All of it seems like pieces of my life puzzle fitting together.
CHAPTER 14
Josie
Finn’s arms circle around me from behind and his mouth goes to the back of my neck. I hit the egg on the edge of the bowl a little too hard and it explodes in my hand.
Laughing, I try to shrug him off me. “Do you want breakfast or not?”
His teeth graze the sensitive skin just below my ear. “I’m hungry but not for eggs.”
A thrill of lust skitters up my spine and I relax into him. “You just had your hunger appeased not five minutes ago in my bedroom,” I remind him.
“I can’t help it,” he murmurs, his hand sliding across my belly and then starting to inch up the T-shirt I’d thrown on along with a pair of panties. “I’m insatiable when it comes to you.”
I know the feeling, Finn. I know the feeling.
We’ve been pretending for approximately fourteen minutes that we’re going to make breakfast before we head off to our respective jobs, but we’ve got nothing to show for it.
The skillet’s hot and the butter is melted, well on its way to browning. The bacon’s in the warming drawer because that part Finn did manage to handle before he came up behind me. The coffee’s been poured but going cold and the morning light coming through the window is so bright and cheerful, I want to put the rest of my life on hold and just revel in this.
I’m happy.
