“Do you get the feeling that we’ve done something…unforgiveable?” Half the street was out on their porches as we drove toward the house and most of them were glaring at us.
Casimir nearly giggled.
“What did you do?” What had I missed? “They’re pissed.”
He’d nearly stopped snickering by the time he parked in his driveway but he had to work at smoothing out his expression as he turned off the car. “Someone keeps putting those cheap little GPS trackers on the car. Every time I find one, I’ve been putting it on random vehicles like the guy who cut me off and then had the nerve to scream at me in the Walmart parking lot the other day.”
As he mumbled something about assholes getting what they deserved, I groaned. “I don’t think that’s legal.”
He shrugged. “Neither is tracking my car or threatening me because someone else can’t drive.”
He was definitely going to get arrested.
Mentally shifting around my emergency fund and savings to make sure we had enough for a good lawyer, I nodded slowly. “I can see your point.”
And why the neighbors were angry.
“How many of those have you…disposed of?” I told myself I was prepared for any answer but his wicked grin made me question that.
“A dozen.” My brain stopped but that didn’t stop his diabolical mind. “Ten that were cheap and I really think made in China and two that were expensive. I gave one of those to the PI guy on my lunch break and the other is being taken to South America by a pothead on what he’s calling the road trip of a lifetime.”
Was that safe?
“I…” Where should I start with that? “I’m assuming you got permission from the…the pothead?”
Was that something they checked for at the border?
“Yes.” Still looking confusingly cheerful, Casimir leaned over and gave me a quick peck. “I’m thinking the expensive ones were your family and the TEMU ones are from the neighbors. Oh, but you have to pretend you don’t know about them, so if someone asks just look confused and ask if they’re okay.”
No.
None of them were okay so that would be easy.
That seemed to be what Casimir liked best about all of them, though.
“I can do that.” Then I’d distract them and chase them off by asking about their tax bracket or if they’ve fixed their 401k situation. “What are we going to do now?”
I wasn’t prepared for his answer but I should’ve been.
“Wave.” Nearly bouncing out of the car, Casimir was grinning ear to ear as he waved at the neighbors like he was a celebrity. “Good evening.”
He was a constant surprise.
So I just pretended it was normal and slowly climbed out of the car to follow my adorably strange boyfriend into the house. My Dom made much better decisions. I’d see him shortly, though, so I enjoyed the crazy as we went inside.
I couldn’t manage the wave, so I ignored everything. At the very least, I thought that would make it easier to play stupid later, so it wasn’t the coward’s way out of crazy.
Thankfully, Casimir had shifted from playful fuckery to playful Dom as we went inside because he aimed all that sexy chaos at me as he closed the door and leaned back against it. “Have I told you how good you looked tonight?”
As I nodded, he stroked my tie and used it to pull me closer. He barely let me brush against his body but he was incredible and it was enough to slow my brain slightly into a hazy buzz. “Yes, Sir. But have I told you how much I loved our date tonight?”
A tender smile peeked out before it was gone, shifting into something flirty and teasing. “You did and I loved hearing how much fun you had. That puppy side peeked out several times.”
Ignoring how my face was heating up, I shook my head and told myself I looked confused, not embarrassed. “I don’t know what you’re talking about. I was just being a polite boyfriend.”
One eyebrow went up.
