I didn’t hesitate.

I launched myself into the air. Like before, the thread was easy enough to follow. My wings clapped like thunder as I careened through the sky.

Faster. Not fast enough.

I sucked in a breath. I could use my lightning. We weren’t meant to use it unless it was an emergency, and even then we needed permission from Micah.

But this was an emergency; I could feel it in my bones. And I was one hundred percent sure Micah wouldn’t punish me for it.

Following my instincts, I curled my wings inwards and transported. I had no idea where I’d be when I arrived, only that it was where I needed to be.

My wings spread wide automatically as the blinding light ebbed away. My supe eyes needed no time to adjust. They immediately found my mate.

Seconds from death on the road below.

Chapter 3

Rami

Less than a heartbeat passed, but it was long enough for me to take everything in.

My mate sprawled across the concrete.

His pulse erratic and weak, barely discernible, even to my ears.

The unnatural angle of his body, suggesting a broken back.

Blood flowing freely from a wound on his head. His already red hair turning darker.

The deathly pallor of his skin, the only colour coming from the freckles dusted across his nose and cheekbones.

The bus, stopped mere feet away, the driver looking on in horror.

I crashed to the ground beside him so hard that the tarmac dented under my knees. Panic surged through me even as my power swelled. So much was wrong. His injuries were taking him from me with every heartbeat.

I wouldn’t allow it.

This man was mine.

Death could not have him.

“Hold on,” I whispered as tears filled my eyes. A flicker of my power sheathed us in a compulsion net, making everyone forget that they’d seen an angel appear. An angel who was weeping over a stranger. “Hold on, please. Please.”

I laid my hands on him, careful not to jostle him. Then, I let the cresting wave of power break free. I didn’t bother to focus on individual injuries. There was no time for that. No, I just unleashed everything I had. There was no finesse, no thought, aside from saving him.

My mate.

My mate.

His blood seeped over my fingers and I blinked to keep my vision clear.

More power surged. More. More.

I sucked in a breath.

It was working.

I was healing him.
