“My father is a professor. He found a great placement, and it was close to good hospitals.”

“Is he sick?”

“No. It’s just something that’s important to my mother. She’s a nurse.”

“Very cool.”

“You’re probably wondering what a professor and nurse’s son is doing, tending bar in Vegas, right?” He raises his eyebrows, just waiting for the judgmental gavel to drop.

“I didn’t ask that.”

“Believe me, I’ve heard it from enough people to know everyone thinks it.” He pauses and puts his fork down to wipe his mouth. “I don’t want to do anything that keeps me from living my life to the fullest. It’s excellent money, it has flexible hours, and I can move anywhere I’d like.”

I like the way he thinks. He’s the kind of guy who lives with no fear and nothing holding him back. It’s refreshing when I’m used to people who are very goal-oriented and have their life all planned out.

I take a sip of my drink and ask, “Where would you go if you could choose anywhere?”

“Everywhere.”

His answer is so profound and yet laced with hidden meaning. I narrow my eyes, seeing if I can read him more clearly. Laughter catches my attention, so I turn to see Paul and Arianna feeding each other at the table, and I let out a groan. I take another bite of my food, not sure how that makes me feel.

“Sorry you lost your P.” He nudges my arm.

“It’s not a big deal. I’m more annoyed that I now have to find Q.”

He laughs. “Quinn. Quincy. Quaid?”

“Exactly. It’s gonna be horrible.” I drop my head back, already feeling defeated.

“Don’t worry. I’ll help you. Come to the bar, and I’ll hook you up again.”

I keep my head back but look over to him. “You don’t have to do that.”

“That’s what friends are for.” His face is instantly covered in a sincere smile.

“Yeah, friends.” I nod my head, repeating that statement over and over in my mind. I have a feeling he’s going to be a very interesting one.
