“Nope. Savion looked at the surveillance from the garage. Whoever did it, they made sure to wear a mask, and the truck didn’t have any plates on it. He followed the truck for as far as he could with traffic cameras, but they disappeared somewhere after leaving the city.”
“You really don’t need to be worrying about all that right now. You need to be focusing on getting better,” Ma said.
“She’s right. Just leave it up to Savion. I’m sure he’ll be able to handle it.”
I felt like a complete failure even though Luxe didn’t get hit. Now I was stuck in a hospital bed instead of being able to find out who was trying to kill her.
The following morning
Dietary came into the room with breakfast. “Good morning,” she spoke as she set the tray on the table.
“Good morning.”
She left out of the room, and Luxe came out of the bathroom. “What they brought you this morning? The food been so bland.”
“How you know?”
“I’ve been the one eating your food.” She snickered.
“You need to be focusing on getting some clothes. Savion and nem couldn’t bring you any?”
“What?” She twirled in the hospital gown. “You don’t like my evening gown?”
“Now who is getting on who nerves?”
“I’ll get me some clothes. Ask Solei to run and grab me some stuff.”
That was her best bet because after that shooting, she wasn’t leaving my side.
Luxe came over to the bed and climbed in alongside me. She pulled my tray over in front of us and opened it. “You need to eat. It might taste like something today.”
It was just a simple bacon, eggs, toast, and grits. The eggs looked like they weren’t gon’ have a taste.
“Why don’t you just order something. This shit looks like it’s just gon’ piss me off.”
“Aww, you want me to order you something, babe?” Her eyes twinkled as she stared at me. “I can do that. What do you want?”
She lifted from the bed, and I caught her by the wrist, pulling her back. It didn’t matter that I caught a sharp pain in my chest. “Thank you.” She could’ve walked away from me in that garage, but she didn’t. She’d been by my side ever since, and I knew this was the woman for me.
A couple weeks later
Ghost and I had been stuck in his apartment ever since we came home from the hospital. Savion gave us instructions that we couldn’t go anywhere. At least that we didn’t need to. I’d been following his orders because I didn’t want anything else to happen to Ghost. The night he got shot, I honestly thought that I’d lost him. I was ready to crash the hell out.
If us staying locked up in here was the safest place for us, then I didn’t mind at all. We had everything that we needed. Food, television, and each other.
Ghost and I had been lying around in bed all day, flipping through the channels. I’d rub his body here and there to make sure that he was comfortable enough. We hadn’t had sex since he came home from the hospital. I didn’t mind. My intimacy needs were filled in other ways. Sex could wait until I knew I wouldn’t hurt him while we were making love.
“I can lay here with you all day,” I told him as I traced his abs with my index finger.
“That’s all you’ve been doing the past couple of days,” he joked.
“And I don’t care one bit.”
“Hold on.”
I lifted my head from his chest, and he tossed the covers back and then got up from bed. I noticed the little wince he did when he stood up. Of course, I didn’t mention it, because he’d only brush the shit off.
Ghost strolled into the bathroom, and seconds later, I could hear his pee hitting the water in the toilet. I grabbed my phone off the nightstand and checked it. There weren’t many notifications. Crystal was handling everything for work from home. I told her that I wasn’t taking any jobs or anything right now. Things were getting kind of out of control. We had to put a tight leash on everything right now. Once whoever was trying to kill me was off the streets, business could return to normal. I was certain that my clients would understand my small hiatus.
