My mouth waters just thinking about that.
Finally, we reach the doors, and she uses her badge to unlock them. Now I’m naked under the fluorescent lights of the hallway.
The guys are never going to let me live this down.
“I really think we should take you to the hospital,” she says.
Again, she uses her badge to open the door to the specific lab where she works. We make our way over to a couple of metal stools up against one of the cabinets. It’s cold under my bare ass, but I prop myself up there. Then her fingers are on my thigh.
She’s so damn close to my dick, I hope I don’t come on her. Shit on a shingle this is awkward.
“The closest hospital is too far. Besides, I think it might have been a through-and-through shot, so no need to worry about removing the bullet.”
“Oh my gar! I actually shot you. I just can’t believe it.” She looks up at me, and her expression is so earnest, so honest, that my heart palpitates. “Let me get the first aid kit so we can at least clean up your wound.”
She spins away from me, and I reach over and grab her phone. I dial Ranger’s number.
“Yo,” Ranger says.
“You don’t even know this number, fucker, why are you answering like that?”
“What’s up?” he asks, ignoring me.
“I’ve had a bit of an accident, and Aspen and I are in the lab. I need you to come get me.”
“What kind of accident?”
“She shot me.”
Raucous laughter rings in my ear and I pull the phone away from my head.
By now Aspen has returned to my side with the first aid kit.
“Ranger! Enough. Should have called Denver,” I murmur.
“Sorry, boss.”
“Whatever, can you just get your ass over here?”
“No can do.”
“Why the fuck not?”
“The whole lab is on lockdown. A potential spill of a toxic substance or something. Not really sure. It’s contained in section seven, but you know the protocol.”
“Are you kidding me right now?” I ask.
“I’m really not.”
“I wrote the fucking protocol. I’m pretty sure you can make an exception.”
“Nope. Is she freaking out about the injury? Is that the issue? Oh, or is she freaking out about how fast you heal?”
“It’s actually not doing that,” I say, looking down at the blood oozing out of my thigh.”
“Did she use some kind of magic bullets? You know silver ones or whatever?”
I’m annoyed he can’t see my eyes rolling. “I think that’s just for wolves, moron. I’m not sure. But I need you to find out what might be impairing the process. Make some calls, do some research. And get your ass up here as soon as the lockdown is over.” Then I hang up.
