Abner hops up next to me to sniff at Selene and she starts at his abrupt presence.

“I know I saw him the other day, but he’s enormous!”

I reach down and cover his ears where they meet his furry head. “He is sensitive about his size.”

Selene laughs. “He’s perfect for you.”

“He really is. I mean those first few months after I rescued him, it was alarming at how rapidly he grew and just how B-I-G he got. If I would have taken him to the vet earlier, I would have known sooner that he wasn’t a normal bunny but rather a Flemish Giant Rabbit. I wouldn’t change a thing though. He’s the bestest boy.” I scratch him between his tall ears.

She laughs. “I imagine that was quite the surprise. But he looked like a regular bunny when you found him?”

“As far as I could tell.”

I lead her to the small galley kitchen where I was unpacking my dishes. She immediately jumps in.

“Anywhere, in particular, you want things?” she asks.

“Wherever seems most logical, I guess. Just go with your gut and if I don’t like it, I’ll move them.”

“You’ve got it.”

We work in comfortable silence for a few moments before she speaks again.

“Hey, I should apologize for the night at Jax’s. Marcus is never like that. I don’t know why he was being such a dick,” she says.

“It’s not a big deal. Not everyone has to like me.”

“But I think he really would if he stopped being a moron.”

I laugh. “It’s really okay.”

“Let me ask you this… did you think he was hot?”

“He is undoubtedly the hottest man I’ve ever seen with my own eyes. At least he was until he glared at me and walked away.” I put a stack of plates in the cabinet above my head. “Okay, that’s a lie. The glare made him even hotter, which I do not understand on any level. Still, he was a massive jerk.”

“He has his reasons,” she says.

I turn and narrow my eyes at her. “Do you know what those reasons are? Not that I’m going to change anything about myself for him or anyone else. But what could he possibly have seen in the few minutes it took for him to look at me to decide he loathes me?”

“I don’t think loathing is what he was experiencing,” Selene says.

I roll my eyes. “I’m pretty sure I know what you’re insinuating, but I can guarantee that man was not attracted to me.”

“We’ll have to agree to disagree. I just have a feeling about the two of you.”

“No, no matchmaking. I mean it, Selene.”

She makes the sign of a cross over her heart. “I promise. Matchmaking won’t even be necessary.”

“Oh my gar, you’re the worst!”

She laughs and hip checks me.

“What about you and your love life? I haven’t heard you mention anything about a man for you.”

She sighs. “That’s because my love life, though complicated, is non-existent.

“Complicated implies there’s someone specific.”
