“Are you kidding me right now?” a woman asks. Not just any woman though, that’s Charlotte’s voice.
I look up to find her standing over me, fists on her hips and her eyes locked on my tablet.
“What? You don’t like this show?” I ask.
“No, I actually love that show. I just didn’t think anyone else watched it.”
“This is quality entertainment right here.” I point to my tablet.
“Agreed.” She smiles at me.
“What are you doing back across the security line?”
“Looking for you, actually.”
My heart thunders. I set my tablet and headphones aside and come to my feet. “Did you need something, Charlotte?”
“Well, it occurred to me that you would be stuck here with most of the other travelers. But I actually have a room in the airport hotel. I can’t offer you much, but there’s a sofa in the room and you can shower or whatever.”
I reach over and grab her hand. “Are you inviting me back to your hotel room?”
Her cheeks stain pink.
“I won’t take advantage of your kindness,” I tell her.
She nods. “Then let’s go back to my room. We can watch some Caught: Smugglers together.”
“Sounds like a perfect evening.”
I gather my stuff and fall into step beside her.
“I finally heard from Brian,” she says.
“The asshat? What was his excuse?”
She gives me a secret smile. “I think you’ll enjoy this. Evidently, he’s intimidated by me because I’m a successful engineer and I make more money than him. He said he could never be with a woman who was more successful than him.”
I stop walking and stare at her. “Are you being serious right now? Did he actually say that?”
She pulls out her phone, swipes a few times and then shows me the screen.
“He deserves to be alone. Moron.”
She laughs and we start walking again. Yeah, it seems Brian is not much different than my ex. Clearly, I dodged a bullet with this one.
“Hey did you see that one episode where that old guy got caught with his tiny exotic birds in his pants?” I ask.
She reaches over and grabs my arm. “Yes. Shoved those poor things in empty pill bottles. I know people in poverty sometimes have to do extreme things to take care of themselves, but that was too much.”
“Yeah, there was that one little bird that was already dead. So sad.”
“I can’t believe you watch that show,” she muses.
I want to tell her that it’s further proof that there’s something happening between us. But it’s clear that Charlotte spooks easy so for now we’ll just bond over our mutual love of trash TV.
By the time we get to her hotel room we’ve covered so many crazy episodes that we’re both laughing. She unlocks the door, and the mechanical noise of the lock feature seems to echo in the hotel halls.
It’s probably just because I’m so hyper aware of this woman. Her curves are mouthwatering. That laugh makes my dick jerk every time I hear it. She’s like my own personal fantasy come to life.
