Chapter One

My chest heaves as I face off against the High Lord of the Light Fae. He waits. Patient as a wolf awaiting the opportune moment to take out his prey. And yet I don’t think that’s exactly what Lord Draekoh has in mind.

I take a deep breath.

“This is it, then?” I ask. “You own me now?” The words cause acid to burn my stomach lining.

“It would seem that way,” he responds coolly.

I huff out a laugh. Right. I forgot. This was his first Hunt, too. I fold my arms across my chest and tip my chin up.

“I’m not leaving without Akari,” I tell him.

Draekoh’s lips twitch, and I can’t help but focus on them. I blink. Stupidly plump and kissable lips! I could slap them straight off his perfectly angular face. Fuck. Why was everything about him so flawless? Besides the fact that he was now my owner, of course, and a male fae bastard to boot.

“Your little friend?” he asks casually.

I nod once, firm, a little surprised he knew who I was talking about.

“Ok,” he says, then turns and begins walking out of the clearing.

I blink, then trip in my haste to catch up to the long-legged prick.

“Ok?” I ask when I catch up to him. “Just like that?”

“It would seem so,” he repeats his earlier words, as if bored.

“Are you allowed to claim two women?” I ask. My footsteps are heavy and loud, my feet picking the noisiest route possible. He, on the other hand, moves as silently as a mouse—no, a predator. Figures.

“No.”

“Then what are you going to do?”

“I haven’t decided yet.”

I snort. Sure.

We walk in silence from then. Well, as silent as my elephant feet can manage. The sound of the river is growing closer when I hear a desperate scream.

I still for barely a breath before I take off for the river.

“Akari!” I shout.

An impatient sigh comes from over my shoulder, and the next thing I know, there’s a warm arm around my waist, followed by a flash of light, and all at once the world tilts and shrinks and extends like an elastic band.

The next thing I know, I’m on my knees outside the rock circle and hurling in the grass. Ugh! Beneni fruit does not taste nearly as good on the way out.

There’s another scream, much closer, and I push my nausea aside and stand.

Akari is face down in the dirt, the skirts of her dress pushed above her hips. She frantically rolls onto her back and pulls down the fabric as she gazes up at the fae who is attacking her. Or had been.

He’s currently hanging in the air with a firm fist wrapped around his throat. I roll my eyes at Lord Draekoh’s show of who has the bigger cock.

But he is the least of my concerns right now. I run to Akari.

“Akari! Are you ok?” I help her with her skirts. She blinks at me in shock.

“Delta? I thought… How…? You’re here!” she stutters.
