“How… I couldn’t have been dancing for more than a few minutes…” I trail off because, though that felt like the truth, my body and the sky tell me otherwise. Hours had passed. As if to iterate the point, my stomach gurgles loudly, and I slap my hand over it self-consciously.

I turn back and face the High Lord.

He’s back on his throne, one leg tossed carelessly over the armrest, and completely unfazed. I scoff at him. Only he could be so casual after being apparently ground upon for hours by his new pet.

“What did you do to me?” I hiss.

Draekoh shrugs. “I did nothing. It is not my fault that the dance of the fae overcame your weak human senses.” His cool façade drops, and he smirks. “You are an exquisite dancer, Little Bird.”

I sneer at the Lord and fold my arms across my chest. The motion causes my arms to ache, and I struggle to keep them in place from their weary shakiness. But if I was anything, I was fucking stubborn, and I would not show weakness in the face of this male.

Draekoh snaps his fingers, and my handmaids appear at my sides. I frown as I realise none of them had been enchanted by the faerie music and dance. It’s then that I notice the thick clumps of moss sticking out of Rita and Frieda’s ears.

They both blush and refuse to meet my eyes. Traitors, I think to myself. Why hadn’t I gotten any earplugs? I knew the answer, of course. I was looking right at him.

“Take Delta to our tent and get her fed, bathed and rested. We have far to travel on the morrow.”

He rises, then and walks into the mass of naked bodies in the clearing. I snort in disgust before letting the women and female lead me away, though I can’t ignore the sudden stab of betrayal that twists my intestines, knowing full well what the High Lord was doing. I told myself I was hurt by the fact that he was off to fuck some random after doing… whatever the hell that was with me. But deep down, I knew it was more.

For some fucked up, Stockholm syndrome bullshit reason, I was jealous.

Chapter Five

My body aches, and not in the pleasant kind. I groan, rolling onto my back with languid and stiff limbs. I don’t open my eyes. I don’t need to. I know where I am. I know what I did last night. I squeeze my eyes together, refusing to face the day with the anger and shame that instantly eats at my soul. But it is pointless. When I feel an emotion, I fucking feel it. There is no taking deep breaths and throwing my worries off into the breeze. No, I carried my emotions heavily. Today was going to suck.

I fling my arms out to my sides in resignation. I frown when one hand touches empty air, and the other lands on something warm and firm, yet also velvety smooth and almost… alive.

My eyes shoot open, but I remain frozen in place. Oh. Oh, no. Oh no, no, no. Please. Please don’t be—I turn my head, ever so slowly, and meet the amused, amethyst eyes of Lord Draekoh. I gasp, my eyes dropping past his wickedly sharp grin, perusing over the angular line of his jaw, past the oddly attractive column of his neck, his enticing collarbone, pecks that beg to have fingernails dragged over them, down to his abdomen that dips and climbs in an exquisite map my tongue would leisurely paint, and finally, to my hand, that rests upon them.

I snatch my hand away quickly. Then, blinking, I jump from the bed altogether.

“I fell asleep on the lounge,” I stammer, glancing over to said lounge, which still bore the pillow and blankets I fell asleep with last night.

Draekoh snorts, not moving from his comfortable recline, hands linked behind his head and muscles on full display. My eyes linger on his bare underarm, remembering what my handmaids had told me about the fae’s lack of body hair.

“The lounge is no place for my woman to sleep,” he says, his voice gravely from sleep. “I moved you.”

I fold my arms across my chest. “I didn’t want to be moved,” I hiss.

“And yet you practically purred as you wrapped your body around mine when I did,” Draekoh grins lazily, his canines glinting almost playfully from behind his lips.

“I did not!” I huff.

“Alas, Little Bird, you did,” he croons. “And after your teasing displays last night, it was extremely difficult not to bury my cock inside your wanting cunt.”

I sputter, fully taken aback by not only his crass words but the sudden growl of his voice and the burning heat of his eyes.

My throat dries as I open my mouth, but no words come out. I close it again and swallow. But Lord Draekoh raises a single eyebrow in challenge, and I just fucking can’t back down from that.

Gathering my nerve, I stick my chin high in the air and say, “Is that the only way you can get laid, High Lord? Drugging and enchantments?”

In one smooth motion, Draekoh sits up. My eyes drop as the sheets fall dangerously low in his lap. I look away quickly. Fuck, was he naked?! No. No way did I sleep next to a completely bare fae male.

“Why don’t you tell me, Little Bird?” he purrs.

With that, he rises, fast as the blink of an eye. And he stands before me stark fucking naked. My jaw drops as my eyes zero in on his nether regions. Holy mother of God. His cock stood proud and intent, thick and long, with protruding veins and heavy, hairless balls beneath.

I turn firmly away.
