“Oh, fuck!” I scream as Draekoh picks up an insistent rhythm that has my orgasm rising and cresting before I can even process that it is coming. I writhe beneath him, but he doesn’t relent. He rides out my orgasm, thrusting his cock inside me like a jackhammer. I shudder as the last wave takes me and, before I can open my eyes again, I feel Draekoh’s lips on mine. They are firm and urgent and swallowing every moan and mewl that escapes me. Before long, my body is tightening again, and I rip my lips from his, only to throw my head back as an orgasm prepares to cross the precipice. Not missing a moment, Draekoh latches onto my neck, and I shatter. Pure, blinding bliss takes me. I feel a sting at my neck, but I am too far gone to fully comprehend it.

Draekoh groans at my neck, and suddenly his body stutters. He roars like a mighty beast as his orgasm takes him. I blink, my vision hazy in my utterly exhausted yet irrevocably satisfied body. I watch as the High Lord rides out his pleasure, slamming home once, twice, thrice more, head thrown back in ecstasy.

Then he stills. I raise a lethargic hand and push back the silver hair that has plastered to his forehead in his exertion. I smile lazily as he looks down on me. Closing my eyes once more, I could have sworn I saw a trail of blood beneath his canines, but I am too far gone to know for sure.

Sleep takes me into its eternal bliss, and I fade with it, in this moment, entirely content.

Chapter Thirteen

My body throbs and burns as I wake; and not in a pleasant way.

Groaning, I throw the covers off my heated body, only to find myself instantly shuddering and slick with a cool sweat.

I am promptly surrounded by cool hands and cooing words that I can’t process. My eyes shudder as I try to open them but fail miserably.

“Just rest, Delta,” Rita hushes by my side.

“What…?” I croak, but can’t finish the sentence.

I am helped to sit up by strong yet thin arms that undoubtedly belong to Laska, and a glass of cold water is pressed to my lips. I guzzle it greedily, then let Laska lay me back down.

“Just rest,” Frieda repeats Rita’s earlier words.

“Your body needs to fight and heal,” Rita adds gently.

I try to groan in annoyance, but nothing comes out. Have I got the flu? My body trembles and my mind falters. Or perhaps I have caught something worse? What illnesses did the fae lands carry?

“Draekoh…” I whisper.

“He is visiting the Spring Court,” Laska explains, and my stomach drops. After the amazing night we had had, he bolted? Fleeing like a teenage boy who had gotten exactly what he wanted while not wanting to face the consequences. Had he made me sick? Was this on purpose?

Was I going to die?

“Sleep, Delta.” I don’t know who whispers the words; my mind is already drifting. “All will be well.”

Even in my exhausted and sickly state, I can recognise the doubt lacing every word.

Chapter Fourteen

I don’t know what wakes me, but I open my eyes to a dark room. My body still aches and shudders, clearly not fully recovered, but my mind is clearer.

I don’t know what time it is, or how long I have been asleep, but my body feels tender, weak, and unfamiliar.

A soft sound has me freezing. Listening intently, I wait for it to happen again. There. Soft and almost indiscernible, but definitely there. The sound of footsteps approaching my bed. My muscles tense, my fight-or-flight reflexes kicking in before I can fully process that someone is in my room. My heart stills. Not someone. There are at least two sets of footsteps. I don’t know how I know it or how I discern the differences between each light step.

I prepare to jump into action, but apparently, I missed the third set of steps. I suck in a breath, absolutely terrified, as the glowing yellow eyes blink into existence mere inches from my face. A slim hand slaps over my mouth painfully before I can get out a single syllable.

I immediately begin to struggle. Curling my fingers into claws, I scratch at my attacker’s face. The telltale hiss following the connection of my fingernails on a sallow cheek has satisfaction bubbling through my veins.

“Ouch!” a female voice cries, furious. “Grab the bitches’ hands! Fucking human has claws!”

Two sets of hands, much firmer and larger than the first, settle on my limbs. Panicking, I kick and struggle with all my might, but I am no match for the three fae. They carry my raging body between them out into the corridor.

Fools, I think to myself as they head down the corridor and towards the entrance to the Orb Suite. Don’t they know these rooms are guarded?

I stop struggling as we near the doors; no point in wasting valuable energy when help was just on the other side.

Except we pass right through. Renewing my struggles, I swing my head around as much as I can. Where the fuck were the guards? Had they abandoned the suite, considering the High Lord was away? Surely they wouldn’t allow his rooms to be unguarded! Anyone could sneak in. My heart sinks. An assassin could be in there right now, biding his time until Lord Draekoh returned, none the wiser, only to be murdered in cold blood as he was kicking off his slippers?
