The preview disappears a second after I read it, and I don’t even bother clicking the message; I know it’s from Des even without looking.
“Fucking asshole,” I grumble, shaking my head as I stuff my phone back into my pocket.
Kat chuckles, and the sound bounces off the porch's high arch.
“Something funny?” I ask her, cocking a brow at her and trying my damnedest to keep a straight face, something Kat is having a much harder time with.
“Nope,” she manages to squeak out before she presses a hand to her mouth. It’s useless; her chuckle breaks through, and even if it didn’t, it’s impossible to miss the laughter that shines in her eyes.
Fuck, she’s beautiful.
They might be a bunch of assholes, but maybe this once I can let it slide.
A smile curves my lips as I lunge forward, grab her around the waist, and toss her over my shoulder before either of us can think better of it.
I expect her to fight, even if only playfully. Instead, her laughter rings out, and I feel it in my chest, my cheeks aching as I smack her ass, and her laughter morphs into something deeper but equally as delicious.
Thank fuck the nanny house is just around the block.
I’d left Kat on my lap while I drove around the block, tossing her back over my shoulder as I make my way up the steps and find the key right where Nathan said.
I open the door and stop dead.
I’d planned to carry her upstairs to a bedroom, or maybe to the couch if she kept up her squirming, but it looks like I won’t have to go that far.
“What’s wrong?” I hear the worry in Kat’s voice and remember she can’t see.
I let her slide down my chest, enjoying the way her breath catches as she rubs against my very noticeable erection. Her eyes bounce up to mine, and I bite back the urge to fuck her right here with the door open when I see her blown-wide pupils staring up at me.
We stand like that for a moment before a flicker catches my gaze, and I remember why I set Kat down in the first place.
I drop my hand to her shoulder and gently turn her around.
“Oh, my…”
Oh my indeed.
Desmond’s been here, and recently, if the candles are anything to go by.
Dozens of candles are, well, everywhere. Rose petals litter the floor throughout the house, and even from here, I can see some kind of light flickering back to us from the far side of the house.
Kicking the door closed, I grab her hand and pull her through the house toward the flickering light and stop dead again.
The couch is gone, and in its place is a bed, a very, very large bed. More candles and flower petals are everywhere, along with a bottle of wine, two already-poured glasses, and a platter of what appears to be chocolate-covered strawberries shaped like a heart in the center of the bed.
Soft music sets the clear mood that Desmond was going for, and I’m not sure if I’m impressed or mortified for him.
“This is…” Words escape me as I look down at Kat to see what she thinks.
“Adorable.”
Not the word I would have picked, but I’ll take it.
“Speaking of adorable.” I grab her by the waist and toss her onto the bed next to the strawberries. She shouts in surprise, but her lips pull up in a wide smile as she bounces.
“He’s nothing if not thorough.”
That’s for damn sure.
