“Yeah, busy doing what? I mean damn brother no one knows where the fuck you are. Do you know what is going on at home?”

I hear him sigh, “No, I have had some shit going on and I’ve ignored my calls. I thought if something was important they would call more or text more.”

“Thorn, you are an idiot. There is shit going on with Ruby at home. She was shot at Terror’s house. Liza just texted me from the hospital saying shit wasn’t good. I don’t know if we should go home or not, man.”

“Fucking hell. I have a bunch of missed calls and texts. Give me a minute to look through everything. If we are ordered back we go, if not then we have to stay until we are told to come back by Terror. This run was more than a run, we are helping get businesses and shit done with the Irish up here. We don’t want to do anything to ruin the relationship that they have with the Callahans.”

I wait probably impatiently for him to go through all the shit on his phone and I hear several curses as he is going through everything. What seems like a fucking hour later he finally fucking speaks.

“We were told to stay here. Terror sent me a few messages filling me in and it’s not good. I will probably give him a call after I get off the phone with you. But he said we are not to come home. He doesn’t want more of us there to hover and he’s a mess.”

“Did he give you more of an update on what’s happening? Is Ruby okay? The baby?”

“Yeah, um, he did.” Thorn clears his throat and then continues, “So Ruby was shot about four times. One was in the shoulder, another caused damage to her in her chest cavity, just missing the heart or any major arteries. Then the other two were in her abdomen. One punctured the placenta and by the time they got to the hospital the baby was already gone. They had a little girl. Terror said he’s waiting to name her until after Ruby wakes up. He doesn’t know when that will be. When Ruby went down after being shot she hit her head on the coffee table in the living room and she had some brain bleeding. So she is in a coma.”

“Fuck, I swear it’s like we can’t catch a break and it is like some bad fucking movie. It’s like all the sudden it is a game to see how many people can spend time in the hospital and even hang in a coma. I mean damn it. Are you sure we shouldn’t go home?”

“No, we should stay, plus I have some shit of my own I have to deal with right now.”

“Okay, what is with the cryptic bullshit? What the fuck is going on?”

“I can’t tell you right now. Let’s just focus on the shit we are here for and I’ll clue you in on everything else when I can. I’ll keep my phone on sound from now on and if anything happens or changes I’ll let you know.”

“Seriously, why the hell do you have to act so fucking mysterious Tanner? Did you meet a woman or something? I mean it’s about time you found someone. I was beginning to think that you were never going to find anybody to help you get that big ass stick out of your ass.”

I wait a minute and nothing comes from my brother and I look down and see he hung up on me, that fucking asshole.

A few minutes later my phone buzzes in my hand and I think that maybe the dickhead is calling back to apologize and tell me what the hell is going on, but I see that it is Peyton.

“Hey Pey, what’s going on? Are you at the hospital? How are Ruby and Terror?”

“Cane,” She pauses and I know something has happened so I straighten my back and prepare for the worst, “have you heard from Liza?”

Chapter Twenty-Five

Dragon

I feel like I am on the outside of my body watching from overhead and I have felt that way for hours. After Peyton called me, I jumped on my bike and headed to the airport. There was no way I was going to ride my bike back the fourteen hours back to Richmond. I needed to get there as fast as I could get. Thankfully, Thorn got me in touch with someone who let me use their private jet so the flight is only going to take about three hours. My mind is going over the conversation with Peyton over and over again in my head and I think I am just numb.

“She just texted me that she was at the hospital. What is going on?”

“She was here, she took Walker to the bathroom and never came back. We went to look for them when they were gone for more than fifteen minutes. When we got to the women’s bathroom her purse and phone were on the floor.”

I can feel my heart and it feels like it is going to beat out of my chest.

“Where is Walker?”

I hear Peyton sob and a muffled whisper back and forth between her and what sounds like Whip. The next thing I know the voice on the phone is no longer Peyton.

“Brother, listen, it looks like someone took Walker and Liza. You need to get back here. We aren’t bothering Terror because of everything going on, but Lash wants you to come back. First off your boys need you and second now your woman and one of your boys is missing. We are going to need you here to find them. I know if situations were reversed I would want to be here. So you’re being ordered back. Wizard can get you a flight out.”

“Uh, yeah. That would be great.”

I don’t know what else to do or say. I feel like I am living in a nightmare. There is no way I go away for a few weeks and my whole world turns upside down, again. I hang up with Whip and call Thorn again this time to tell him that I am going home and that I don’t know what he is dealing with, but I have shit at home that I need to deal with now.

The next thing I knew I was being told that the Callahan’s jet was waiting for me at the airstrip and that they would take me home. Thorn said he couldn’t leave just yet and he told me to keep him apprised of the situation because he loves my boys and he loves their mama. Fuck. I can’t believe this is happening. Who the fuck would take them and why? I hope that by the time I touch down in Richmond someone will have answers for me. It sucks that I had to leave the other brothers in Ashford and I know that they wish they could come too, but orders are orders and with a club our size I know that I will have backup.

Before I got on the jet I shot a message off to Glitch and Liza’s brothers. I don’t know if this has something to do with what happened to her in the past, but I know that they need to know and are going to want to know that something has happened.
