“What is going on? What do you want?”

Dragon looks at me, he’s got pain showing in his eyes and regret, I don’t even want to know what this is about. I’ve had enough surprises to last a lifetime. Two of them are close to celebrating their first birthday, the other one should be making their appearance soon.

“I need some answers and we need to talk because when I came here earlier you refused. That’s over. I want answers, I want to make all this better.”

I roll my eyes.

“What could you possibly need answers to, Dragon?”

He looks pissed when I call him by his road name. He slams his hand on the counter and Twister moves up next to him, they begin whispering back and forth like I’m not even here.

“You know you two could do this at your own home. I mean you don’t really need to be sharing secrets at my home.”

Dragon turns to me with a glare. Oh how scary, I think I’m going to go all weak in the knees. I again roll my eyes at him this time so he can see that I don’t find him remotely intimidating.

“Liza, you know I am not Dragon to you! I never have been, so stop with that bullshit. That’s the first fucking thing we need to get out of the way. You fucking call me Cane and you know it.”

“I’m sorry, I was under the impression that your legal name was only for you know ‘your woman’ or you know ‘ol’ lady’ isn’t that how these clubs work? I mean I read all about that shit in romance novels and stuff. Maybe my information is wrong.”

He gives me a look of almost like don’t give me that shit and Twister chuckles again and moves away from his brother taking a seat at one of the chairs. I look over and Dragon is leaned over the counter. His finger is pointed towards my face and really, I think I want to break it. He woke my ass up and I’m fucking tired.

“Don’t give me that bullshit, Liza. You know exactly how clubs run and it isn’t from any fucking romance novel. Let’s be honest with each other now.”

I look over at him innocently, “Oh whatever are you talking about? Can you just get on with your accusations so that I can go back to bed? I’m tired. I’ve got classes in the morning.”

He rounds the counter and turns me in the stool, placing his body in between my legs. Now normally I’d get all hot and bothered by this, and even though my crazy hormonal body is liking he’s right there, I will not show that to him.

He reaches between us and lifts my chin up so I’m making eye contact with him.

“Liza, why didn’t you tell me you are the Skullz club princess?”

My heart rate picks up and my breath starts to quicken. Who told him that? Did someone find me? My eyes bounce in between both of his waiting for him to continue because I have nothing to say.

“You could’ve trusted me with that. You should’ve trusted me with that, if nothing else. I need to know what kind of danger you’re in.”

I try to push him away from me, but the solid asshole won’t budge.

“Listen, I don’t have to tell you anything. All I am to you is your baby mama and I’m sure you’ll have a string of them. My life before you and everything that happened to me is none of your business. We are nothing to each other, remember? You remember all those words you said to me? Because I do, I remember that bitch in your house straddling you too. I remember everything and I’m so glad that I never opened up to you about any of my past. You didn’t deserve it. Who I am to the Skullz is none of your business. I don’t need your protection, I have plenty.”

“Brother, are you kidding me?!? You told me nothing happened with Jen, that she was just there. She was fucking straddling you?”

Dragon’s eyes don’t leave mine as he answers his brother, “Nothing happened, didn’t even kiss her. She was there and yeah she put on an act like we talked about, but I never kissed her, never fucked her, nothing.”

I scoff because yeah fucking right. I’ve been burned by bikers before. I don’t really believe the ‘it wasn’t what it looked’ like bullshit these men seem to use to try and make themselves look innocent.

“You don’t have to believe me, I know you don’t, but it’s true. I used her to push you away, she knew what I was doing. She was a friend of Sophie’s from high school. They really hadn’t talked in awhile, but I knew her. I asked her for a favor and she agreed. She wanted to get a bike done for her boyfriend.”

“Oh so you guys are both homewreckers, how lovely.”

He growls at me and steps closer to me if that’s even possible. Both his hands shoot to my face and he moves my head so I am looking at him.

“I was fucking scared! Okay? So fucking scared! I did something I’ll regret for the rest of my life because I missed time with you, I missed time with the boys and most of all I missed all the big moments of you growing our boy. I can’t get any of that time back, but I thought doing this, I thought pretending we meant nothing would keep the enemy away from you. My mind has been all over the fucking place. I was grieving, I was trying to adjust in a world where the first woman I ever loved didn’t exist. I couldn’t take the thought of what happened to her, happening to you.”

I looked at him and it just all makes me angrier. So I shove him and this time he wasn’t expecting it so he stumbles back a little, enough for me to stand up and put distance between us.

“I get you were grieving, I get you were scared, but nothing, NOTHING, rationalizes what you did to me. What you put me through! You have no idea what I can handle! You have no idea why I have been through, what I can take! You made all these choices about us by yourself! I thought we were building something and the first time in years I felt safe. I felt fucking protected and like I didn’t have to be on fucking alert all the damn time! That got stripped away in a fucking second because you couldn’t handle bringing someone into the life!

Well newsflash, Dragon, I’ve lived the damn life! I grew up in it! I’ve dealt with the whores, I’ve dealt with the patch chasers, I’ve dealt with the brothers who think that no one is good enough for their little club princess, I’ve dealt with it ALL! I’ve dealt with so much more! The problems your club has been dealing with are horrible, but I’ve seen worse! I’ve lived fucking worse! And I’ve lived with it every fucking day since I got out of it! I know all the dark and dirty! When I met your sisters and they introduced me to your club I thought you were better. I thought your club was better, thought you cherished your women, thought you weren’t fucking cheaters. But what the fuck do I know. It turned out we weren’t even in a real fucking relationship.
