Thorns of Youth

After her kidnapping, I got on the dark web and got the location of an upcoming flesh auction. The trafficking route was impossible to interfere with, so I obtained the location for the upcoming auction instead. I was prepared to purchase her there, but her stepfather beat me to it.

“You didn’t tell her,” he drawled.

“No.”

“Why not? She’ll think of you as a knight in shining armor.”

I pinched the bridge of my nose. “No, she won’t. Kristoff got her out, and I didn’t do anything.”

Kyran scoffed. “You followed her halfway across the globe. You were prepared to drop millions to ensure she didn’t end up with some pervert. I’d say that’s something.”

“You saw the way she… broke.”

She stood on that stage, her face smeared with dirt and stamped with fear, wearing a white nightgown. Once she was sold, she walked off the stage with a gut-wrenching terror on her face and a haunted look in her eyes.

That image of her had followed me for months afterward, and gutted me now as I recalled it.

“Yes, but she survived, and that’s saying something."

“She should have never endured something like that. She’s not part of our world.”

“She wasn’t, but from that day on, she was, and you know that. Isn’t that why you’re marrying her?”

“Yes.”

It was best to let my brother believe that rather than learn the truth.

Thankfully, the women in the restaurant had finished their dinner, bringing our conversation to an end. They got up and swept through the room like peacocks on a parade, their heads held so ridiculously high I was amazed they could see anything below their eyebrows.

“Time to move,” I said.

Five years ago, these women bullied Sienna. Tonight, I intended to return the favor.

Following them, I waited for the perfect opportunity. I didn’t have to wait long.

Once they were in the darkness of the parking garage, Kyran and I were at their heels, no longer bothering to conceal our presence. We made it plenty clear that we were following them.

Their steps picked up the pace and so did ours. They glanced over their shoulders, and I ensured they saw a menacing grimace on my face, and so did Kyran.

We toyed with them until they were ten feet from their row of elite BMWs waiting for them in the secluded section of the garage. Then we caught up and blocked their way.

“Hello, ladies,” I greeted.

Their eyes flicked toward the security of their vehicles.

“You can try to run,” Kyran drawled, his tone full of menace, “but fair warning, we love the chase.”

They shared a scared look. “We have nothing to give you.”

“We want nothing from you.” I chuckled darkly. “But we’ll give you something.”

They stiffened. “Please… we… please…”

“Don’t you know what we’re going to give you?” Kyran asked coldly. All three shook their heads. “Nonetheless, you’ll ask us what we have for you.”

My twin was good at wordplay and this one probably had them thinking the worst-case scenario. Luckily for them, we weren’t into that shit.

“W-what do you have for us?”
