Thorns of Youth

“It’s been a crazy week, all right?” I said. “I still need to visit Sienna’s parents.”

They probably thought I wanted to talk to them about the wedding. They would be wrong. The truth was uglier.

I wanted to get to Baltimore and have a talk with Sienna’s best friend. My men had been taking turns tailing him.

I promised Sienna I wouldn’t hurt him, but there were no promises made about talking to him.

The idea of him with Sienna still haunted me. The knowledge that it was his mother who arranged for Sienna’s kidnapping made it even worse.

Now, I had to deal with this bachelor party before I paid him a visit.

“I bet that’s not the only thing you’re doing in Baltimore,” Aiden murmured, his eyes sliding toward me. “Are you sure it’s smart to fuck with your woman’s best friend? There’s enough blood on those hands.”

I held my hands out, turning them over.

“One more drop won’t hurt.”

Kyran snorted. “That boy should reconsider his friendship with Sienna. Tyran is a jealous beast when it comes to that woman.”

I checked my watch. “Let’s get this done. I’ve got shit to do.”

“Yeah, yeah, we know,” Aiden deadpanned, flagging the bartender over. “Forget the game, Kyran. Let’s just show him the gift.”

“Dammit, Aiden. I’ve worked really hard at putting together this party.”

“You can enjoy it, brother. Just think”—he spread his arms wide—“you get to have all these women to yourself.”

I snorted. “If he isn’t careful, his dick will be chafing.”

“Better him than me.”

The bartender set our signature drinks—scotch and whiskey—before us. We each took a glass, then turned to face one another.

Aiden started the toast by raising his glass. “To a long life, wedded bliss, and—”

Kyran cut him off. “And lots of pussies for me.”

We tipped our heads back, drained our drinks, and slammed the empty glasses onto the bar top.

“My wife is going to have my ass for drinking this early in the morning,” Aiden remarked wryly.

We all knew that was a lie. His wife adored him, practically worshipping the ground he walked on.

“That’s why I’m never getting married,” Kyran grumbled.

Aiden and I exchanged an amused look.

We both knew better.

His time would come.

My gift waited for me in the soundproof cell, gagged—not in a good way—and chained.

“I present to you”—Kyran made a sound of drums beating—“José Corton.”

“One of the men who manned the ship that Sienna was on when she was kidnapped,” Aiden explained.

“I know the name.”
