“Ah see, you’re a stranger until I get to know you, hence the questions. So, pets?”

She rolls her beautiful honey colored eyes. “A cat.”

“A cat? You know that’s a little stereo—”

“Finish that sentence and I will murder you.” She glares at me as I snort, but her anger does something to me. I can feel myself harden beneath my swim shorts. Being the butt of her rage is the closest to a high I can experience in this life.

“You can try but it’d be a little difficult.” I smirk at her.

“Yeah? What for?”

Shit.

My face falls. “Uh…people? Yeah, there’s people. Everywhere. Hard to stab someone in daylight.”

Not that it’s virtually impossible to die by normal means.

I had learned earlier that Mina has absolutely no idea where she is right now, or what any of the other people on this island are. She’s pretty much a sitting duck in the middle of a lion’s den.

Once she had mentioned she wasn’t here because she signed herself up, I knew. Immediately. Unless she’s super good at hiding it, Mina is unaware that someone close to her is also something that goes bump in the night.

“I never said anything about stabbing,” she trails off with a wink, the corner of her mouth twitching the slightest. The little grin is breathtaking.

This girl truly does not know how heartstopping she is. It’s mind blowing. She’s perched here on this lounge chair looking like Rose being painted like a French girl in this black and white striped bikini. It’s got her looking like one of those retro pin-up girls, and it’s killing me. Every curve is just boasting the fact I can’t touch, unless I want to really test that ax murderer streak.

I shake my head slightly, clearing my throat.

“Okay. You have a cat. What kind?” I ask.

“A black one.” Mina’s eyes are shifting across the words she reads. I just block what I can hear.

“A black cat. Tell me you didn’t name it Salem.” I roll my eyes. “That’s so basic. Every goth girl has a black cat named Salem. Where’s the originality?”

“No, I didn’t name him Salem,” Mina snaps, before whispering, “I already had a Salem as a kid.”

“Uh, huh,” I said unbelievably, “Then what’s his name?”

She whispers.

“What? I didn’t hear you.” I definitely heard her. I grin.

“Poe. His name is Poe,” She snaps. Her glare getting stronger, heating my blood even more.

God she’s fun. I wonder if she fucks with the same energy. Now, that would be fun.

“Poe? Like Edgar? The writer?” I tilt my head thinking.

“Yeah, the writer,” she says nonchalantly.

I hum. “Why Poe?”

Mina huffs, throwing her Kindle down, crossing her arms.

It’s a delectable sight, her tits pushed together, and the outline of what I know has to be piercings poking through her top.

“He was an interesting man. Anything else?” She’s defensive, challenging me.

“Wasn’t he like, a drunk, or crazy or something? Married to his cousin?” I try to keep from showing my amusement but I don’t think it works. She’s very visibly getting annoyed with me, but I love it.
