Love was everything. And I’d been foolish to think I didn’t need it, that our marriage would function without it. I’d fallen hard for Amira and I didn’t want to go back to the way things had been. I didn’t want to be that man who convinced himself that he could get by without love. I could just picture Maryam’s face when I told her the news. I’d never live this one down.

Christ, I loved my wife and it was the most amazing feeling in the world. I wasn’t going to push those feelings aside. Not anymore.

“So?”

She leaned back after perusing the documents. “It’s a solid proposal.”

“It is.”

“Like I said, I’ll think about it.”

I nodded. I could accept that she would need time. “I know it’s a lot to process.”

“It is. I appreciate the time and effort you’ve taken to do this, Zane. I know that a lot of thought went into this, especially given how busy you’ve been.”

“You’re important, Amira. You mean a lot to me and I want to help you succeed.”

She stood. “I think that’s enough talking shop for one day.”

“I agree.”

I followed her to the door, then reached around her to flick the lock. Amira turned, eyes wide.

“We still have some unfinished business.”

“Is that so?”

I squeezed her hips, pulling her closer.

“I’ve been having some very disturbing images of you on that desk of mine.”

“Not your conference table?”

My grin was wicked. “That too. Now that I think of it, I might need some help with a new proposal.”

“Hmm.”

“I thought we might be able to figure out the terms and come to an agreement.”

“A new proposal?”

I leaned into her now so that her back was flush against the door.

“A very . . . enjoyable proposal.”

“I’m all ears.”

I trailed my hand along her thigh. “First, can I just say how happy I am you’re not wearing trousers.”

Amira grinned. “And why is that?”

“So I can do this.”

I pressed my fingers against her clit, softly stroking her through her underwear. She squirmed, mouth parting. When she moaned I knew I wouldn’t last.

“Forgive me, Amira.”

“For what?”
