“I don’t know,” Zane muttered, voice strained.

“Did you dream about me? About this?”

“God, Amira.” His gravelly reply turned me on. I wanted him to beg.

I continued to rub against him, aware that my own arousal dampened my underwear. Images of his head between my thighs, his fingers buried deep inside of me made me even wetter.

Because I wanted to pull up my dress, because I wanted him to slide inside of me, I stepped back.

The break in contact was a chasm. But a necessary one.

Chests heaving, we stared at one another. I didn’t know what this meant, but I knew that I desired him. Even though I shouldn’t, I craved this man in a way I couldn’t seem to with anyone else.

Perhaps that was it. Perhaps I needed to keep dating other men to find that spark. There were billions of people in the world. Zane Nasser wasn’t the only man who could make me feel this way.

“We shouldn’t be doing this.”

The man was looking for a wife, was practically engaged to some stranger, and yet here he was touching me, seducing me as if it meant nothing. It was wrong.

Zane grimaced, his expression hard. “Are you seeing someone else?”

“What kind of question is that?”

“Are you seeing someone else?” he repeated, eyes hard.

“So what if I am?”

“I don’t take what belongs to another man.”

“Jesus, Zane. I belong to no man. Even if I was dating someone, I wouldn’t belong to them.”

“Good.”

“You need to leave.”

He stared at me, hands in his pockets.

“I mean it.”

He nodded after a moment. “This thing between us isn’t over, Amira.”

I should have felt guilty. I should be repulsed. He was going to get married, and I refused to be some wealthy man’s sidepiece. But when he looked at me like that . . .

I followed him to the door, watching as he hit the pavement with long, languid strides.

As far as I was concerned, this thing between us was well and truly over.

AMIRA

“Here she is!” Dad opened the front door just as I was about to put my key in the lock.

“Happy Friday to you too, Dad.”

“Why you no tell us, eh? You keep secrets from your dad?” He took the groceries from my hands and placed them down by the door.

“Tell you what?”
