“Admissions right after you almost didn’t pull out before nutting don’t count. Yeah nigga, I felt you cleaning your cum off my lips,” I replied.

“I pulled out, though. That’s all that matters. Besides, I had a vasectomy five years ago. I can go up in your raw and won’t leave a jit behind.”

“I’m in love,” I swooned, sitting up. “A man who I don’t have to convince to get a vasectomy because it’s less invasive than a tubal ligation is a man I will allow to claim feelings after putting this pussy on him. I warned you that my pussy would have you wrapped around my finger.”

I swirled my finger around in the air and sat up. Xain pulled his boxers on and peered down at me.

“Did you eat lunch?”

“No, I came home to shower and sleep because I was tired, but you thwarted my plans,” I explained.

“I’ll order something and go pick it up after we take a shower,” Xain assured me as he headed out of the room. “You want a bottle of water?”

“Yes, set it on the dresser for me.”

I peeled myself off the floor and froze when my front door beeped twice before opening. It was a little after noon, and Noah’s ass had another hour in school. Thinking Xain left, I grabbed my robe from the closet to see what he was doing.

“Well, who are you, handsome?”

I froze, trying to see if I was hallucinating. I should have known a free Chanel bag on a random Thursday was too good to be true. There was no way that was my mother’s voice.

“Khaleesi, you didn’t tell me you had a man! He’s handsome too,” she complimented.

I rushed out of my bedroom and saw my mom smiling at Xain. He was in the kitchen, and she was on the opposite side of the island, unaware that the man was in his boxers on the other side.

“Thank you, ma’am,” Xain replied, blushing harder than when I complimented him.

“What happened to your face, suga?”

“I’ll let your daughter tell you the story about how she put stunned iguanas in my rental right before I hopped on the interstate,” Xain laughed.

“Ma, I did not put those iguanas in his truck, and I don’t have a man. Xain would be better categorized as a stalker. Think of Joe Goldberg, but the gun-toting nigga version,” I declared, approaching them.

“That’s crazy.”

“Mom, turn around,” I requested.

“Turn around?” She sputtered. “Why?”

“Cause her man that ain’t her man doesn’t have on clothes,” Xain clarified.

“Xain,” I scolded.

“What? I’m trying to help Mama understand.”

“Oop, I picked a fine time to pop up, huh? Lawd, please don’t tell me you went to jail behind this man. He’s handsome, but not that damn fine to be catching charges.”

“Is that why you came here? Who told you I went to jail?”

“Your dad.”

“Why are you talking to him?” I snapped, waiting for her to say something to piss me off so I could flip my own apartment upside down.

My mom propped her hand on her hip and glared at me. “Now you know damn well it ain’t nothing like that. That fool called to ask me if I could go to the courthouse and tell them I want to waive his child support arrears. You know he still owes me.”

“What did you tell him?”

“I would talk to you and see how you feel,” she explained.
