Reasons like this explained why my aunt was one of my favorite people in the world. She didn’t play about me. Whenever I needed her, she would come running. I literally just had to ask her at the last minute to come to London with me, and she was on board. She supported me to the fullest. When she told me that she might cry, I believed her. I saw the excitement written all over her face. It was the excitement that you would expect from your mother when you told her good news. My aunt was that person in my life that I went to whenever I needed to share something major. I knew I could never go to my mom for something like this.
I told my aunt to call me later and after she told me she loved me and I said it back, we hung up the phone. While I sat here finishing with my toes, I went to the group chat that had all my girls in it. I told them the big news. The love immediately started pouring in. I was going to wait until I got home to tell Wolf. I wanted to tell him in person, especially since I was getting ready to leave out tomorrow.
I’m sure he was going to be home by the time I got in. We talked earlier, and after hanging with his mom, he told me that he was meeting up with his best friend. I was almost done with my pedicure, and his house wasn’t too far away, so by the time I got there, I’ll have a few hours to chill with him before it was time for me to head into the club.
I left the nail salon fifteen minutes later. I walked over to my car, hopped inside, and immediately started it up. I couldn’t wait to get to the house, shower, eat some of the leftovers from last night and just lie up under my man until it was time for me to go into the club.
Sure enough, I made it to Wolf’s place in no time. I parked the car, walked into the building through the side door, and took the elevator up to his floor. When I walked into the house, I didn’t see Wolf, but I could hear him in the back room. It sounded as if he was on the phone.
I removed my shoes, leaving them by the door, and followed his voice.
I spotted him in the bedroom. The phone was glued to his ear, as he stood at the foot of the bed. His shirt was off. The only thing he had on was a pair of jeans and they were unbuckled. He left his shoes by the door just as I did, but he was still wearing his socks. His hair was in a low bun, just as it was most of the time. The look on his face was hard to read. I wasn’t sure if he was unhappy with whatever phone conversation he was having, or if it was something else.
I walked over to him and stood directly in front of him. He kissed the top of my head and proceeded with his call.
“Okay. I’ll get there a little earlier tomorrow then. Call me once you leave out of the shop. I want to hear what the final number was for the day,” he said to whoever was on the phone.
After a few seconds, he hung up and tossed the phone on the bed.
“What’s wrong? You seem annoyed,” I said, stepping back so I could look up at him.
He ended up taking a seat at the foot of the bed. When he sighed, I got the impression that it was getting ready to be some bullshit, so I tossed my phone down on the bed, waiting for him to respond. As I waited, I folded my arms, picking up my leg, so I could sit my knee in his lap.
“What happened between you and Jamal a couple of years ago?” he asked, getting right to the point.
“Jamal? Jamal? Remind me of who that is again,” I said, not really having a clue who he was referring to.
“Jamal Jenkins. NFL player,” he said it like he was annoyed. Annoyed that I might not have known who Jamal was or annoyed at whatever information he might have had on me, and Jamal.
“Oh. Nothing happened between me and him. He came to the club a couple of years ago with a crew. Someone was celebrating a birthday. They were in a VIP section that night. Me, Lyric, and a few of the other dancers were in their section that night. I danced for him. I want to say he gave me like $30k that night. After the dance, he asked me for my number. At the time, I was dealing with Hitta, but we were beefing that night, so I really only gave Jamal my number because I was mad with Hitta. When we left their section, I told Lyric that we exchanged numbers. She was the one to tell me that Jamal used to play in the NFL and how he was married with kids. I didn’t have a clue who he was,” I started.
Wolf was hanging onto my every word, looking me in my eyes as I shared the story with him.
“He called me the next day. I had already done my research though and sure enough, he was married with children, just like Lyric told me. When he called, I wanted to see if he would tell the truth, so I asked him. He told me he was married but it was complicated. I never gave him a chance to explain to me how it was complicated though. I don’t deal with married men. I know how it feels to be on the opposing side, having a man cheat on you so that’s never been my thing. I blocked his number after that and we never spoke again. What happened? What made you ask me about him?” I was curious.
“That’s who I met up with. That’s my best friend,” he said, and that’s when I removed my knee from his lap.
“And what? He told you that he fucked me?” I asked, knowing that niggas loved to lie on their dicks, so I wanted to see if that’s what happened.
“He told me that he almost fucked you. I just wanted to hear your side of the story. You told me the exact thing that he told me, so I’m going to leave it at that,” he said.
“That doesn’t correlate though. The part of the story that I gave you doesn’t sound like a nigga that I almost fucked. I learned that he had a wife, and I blocked him. How does that sound like a nigga I almost fucked?” I wanted to know.
“Deja, I’m telling you what that nigga told me. I didn’t say that you almost fucked him. I’m telling you what was told to me,” he said, and I nodded my head.
“But you sound like you’re annoyed, so you probably believe that he almost fucked me,” I let him know.
“I’m annoyed because I had to beat the fuck out of that nigga. I been friends with Jamal for 20 plus years. He started talking crazy and I had to put my hands on him,” he shot.
“Hmm,” was all I said before walking away.
I didn’t want to argue with Wolf. We didn’t argue. That really wasn’t our thing. I didn’t want it to become our thing, so that’s why I was choosing to walk away. Plus, I was leaving to go to London tomorrow, and I didn’t want to leave beefing with him.
I chose to walk away and go in the closet. I went for my suitcase that was in the corner of the room, so I could start packing up a couple of things. The entire time that I moved around in the closet, all I could think about was the fact that Wolf was best friends with Jamal. I never knew that. Wolf and I have had plenty of deep conversations over the last couple of months. I knew he had one best friend. He told me that his best friend retired from the NFL, but I never asked what his name was. Wolf never told me his name, either.
Literally nothing happened between Jamal and I. He came to the club, I danced for him, and we exchanged numbers. If I wasn’t beefing with Hitta, I would have never given him my number though. I just hated that from that little exchange between us two, he was going around telling people that we almost fucked. I literally never almost fucked him. I felt like Wolf didn’t believe me though. That’s the vibes I was getting from him.
As I was packing my bag, Wolf eventually walked into the closet. He stood by the door, and the second he saw that I was packing up a bag, he sucked his teeth.
