That’s not the point.
“He knew you were not wearing your ring,” he whispers. I turn a scowl at him. “I did not tell him. His brother did.” He firmly states
My brow furrows.
“I am sure he did. So, his brother is spying on me now?” I retort.
“No. It is more along the lines of one of those two,” he nods toward Tom and Alan, “planning to ask you out.”
My full frown is immediate.
“Married or not, neither of those two would make the cut,” I whisper shout at him.
“I know, but the boss gets a bit jealous and possessive when it comes to you.”
“He needs to tame that jealousy,” I say, turning back to my work.
I keep my focus on it until closing time. Vivian leaves without saying goodbye. Tricia comes over to speak with me.
“Ignore her. She is jealous,” she says about Vivian.
“I could not be bothered by her,” I reply.
She turns to Ice.
“Call you later?” she asks.
“Yes,” he nods, and we all leave through the back.
When I get home, I shower, change into my pajamas, and eat dinner with Ice, who is surprised by how quiet I am.
“Do not worry, you will not be caught in the crossfire of our fight,” I tell him matter of fact.
He raises his hands in surrender.
I finish my dinner and take my pill early. I know Bruce. He probably plans to be home early, but I am not talking to him anytime soon.
Chapter seventy-three
Bruce
Last twenty-four hours, my wife has been giving me the silent treatment. I got home last night to find her asleep, and it was clear she took that annoying pill. It fucking upset me, but it didn’t stop me from sleeping next to her. She didn’t speak to me this morning and left home without breakfast. Even Chef gave me the stink eye, sensing I’m the cause of her anger.
Today, I decided before leaving for the office that if I’m going to rock the boat. I might as well rock it all the way. Time, I handle this situation.
Jola is frightened of telling Jonah about us, and I need him to know now. I’m too fucking grown to be hiding the fact that I’m married to a woman I love.
I leave home with a copy of our marriage license. I hand it to Grayson along with a picture of our wedding day and tell him to send it to Jonah. I sit back and wait for the impact of the bomb I just dropped on Jonah.
Given how afraid Jola is, I know this will not land quietly. The moment Jonah sees proof that I married his sister; it will hit hard.
However, instead of a call, I get a text.
Jonah: Is this a joke? Lexi would never get married without me.
Me: It’s not a joke. She asked me to marry her and I said yes.
Jonah: Again, she wouldn’t do that. I know Lexi. This better be some kind of sick joke. I’m not finding this funny.
