“He made clues for me to follow,” she said.

Hammer looked at Ghost, and his pulse picked up. “Did that continue when you got older?”

“Sometimes,” she said.

“How old were you when Viper died?” Ghost asked.

“Twenty-seven,” she whispered.

“Did he give you a clue before he died?” Hammer asked. Angel shook her head, and then stopped.

Ghost saw the moment something hit her. “What are you remembering?” he asked. Her face lost color. “Angel?”

She sat on the edge of the bed. “Oh, my God.”

Hammer crouched in front of her. “What is it?”

“The Halloween card,” she breathed.

Ghost frowned. “What Halloween card?”

“My dad gave me a Halloween card the week before he died,” she remembered. Ghost looked toward the fake cobwebs hanging outside the window. Of fucking course it would have to involve Halloween—the worst fucking day of the year.

“What did it say?” Hammer asked.

“I don't remember,” she admitted.

“Try to remember,” Hammer said.

“I am.” Angel pressed her fingers against her temples. “It had a witch on the front. Dad loved Halloween. The whole club did. They threw this huge party every year.”

Ghost felt something click into place. “Like Monster does?”

“Yeah.” Her expression softened for half a second. “Dad went crazy with decorations. He used to turn the entire clubhouse into a haunted house.”

“What was in the card?” Ghost asked.

“Money, I think,” she said.

“Anything else?” he asked.

Angel went quiet before whispering, “A key.”

Ghost's heartbeat kicked into high gear, and Hammer stood. “What kind of key?” Ghost asked.

“I don't know,” she said.

“You don't know?” he almost shouted.

“I didn't know what it opened,” she admitted.

“What did you do with it?” Ghost asked.

“I kept it,” she said.

Ghost stared at her. “Where is it now?”

Angel slowly looked up. “My father's house.”
