“Hmm?” I asked, lifting my head enough to see what he was looking at.

He had stepped away and was peering down to admire all his cum, mixed with my juices, decorating the canvas. My eyes widened, another wave of heat swelled through my system at the mess I had made.

“I need to clean it up before it ruins it,” I said, scrambling in his hold.

But he pulled me closer and clicked his tongue. “No, you don’t. I chose what happens to it. That canvas is mine now.” He set me on my bed and picked up the painting, a small smirk on his lips. “And so are you.”

With that, he left me in my room, thoroughly fucked and with one less canvas to paint on.

Chapter Twenty-Seven

Ember

“What’re you so mad about today?” I asked from the hospital bed, looking over at Cade.

My arm was decorated with shiny needles, my eyes tired from the lack of sleep last night and from whatever was in these tubes that leaked liquid into my bloodstream. I fought to keep my eyes open and impatiently waited for an answer.

“I’m not,” Cade said from the seat beside me, his arms crossed over his chest.

This man had fucked me raw last night, left my room with that painting, and not returned until the morning with that pissed-off expression on his face. He had barely said two words to me on our way here.

“Are you jealous?”

He side-eyed me. “Jealous of who?”

“Davix.”

“What do I have to be jealous about?” he asked, straightening himself out.

Oh, he totally is.

“You know …”

Cade leaned forward. “This isn’t jealousy, babe.”

We stared at each other for a couple of moments before my lips curled into a smirk.

“You sure about that? Because your eyes glowed all gold when I mentioned his name.”

Janice snickered from my bedside, writing something on a clipboard. “They did.”

“Eat your muffin,” he said to me. “It’s banana bread.”

After I side-eyed him, I pulled the muffin he had gotten me this morning from Junction out of the brown paper bag and took a bite of it. Janice hummed to herself, set the clipboard down, and walked out of the room.

“I really think you should—” I started, but then I heard it—Hazel’s voice.

My eyes widened, and I plucked the needles from my arm and jumped out of the bed. I ran over to the door, but Cade stepped in front of me, his big arms crossed over his chest and an even meaner expression on his face.

“What are you doing? You’re not done.”

“I’m shutting the door. Now, move!”

“Get back into the bed,” he growled. “You’re not sneaking out.”

“I’m not!” I whisper-yelled. “Please, move!”

“Ember. Bed. Now.”
