A blank white canvas lay on my pillow. I snatched and lifted it into the air, letting the moonlight bounce against it, then sniffed once more. This wasn’t just a blank canvas. No, this had …

What the fuck was on it?

It smelled like Ember and … and that fucking asshole!

My canines lengthened, my claws elongating. I hurled the painting onto the ground, threw open the door, and stormed out of my bedroom. Because I wasn’t going to let this fucking slide. Cade had snuck into my packhouse during an attack to give this shit to me.

If he wanted to play fucking dirty, then I’d play fucking dirty.

Ember was mine! All mine!

And nobody else was going to fucking have her.

Chapter Thirty-Four

Ember

Wolves howl beside me, the scent of lilac drifting through my nose. I flutter my eyes open and stare at two wolves peering down at me, purple flowers surrounding them. One nudges my shoulder.

I lean back on my forearms and notice a pack of wolves, larger than the ones I have seen in Black Hollows, playing with each other in the meadow underneath the full moon, their white, silver, black, brown coats glimmering.

Where am I? What is this place?

One of the two wolves lay beside me, placing their head in my lap and howling softly.

Gently, I drag my fingers through his white fur and close my eyes, enjoying the moment. Because honestly? It doesn’t matter where I am or what this place is. It is nice, almost how I wish the afterlife will be.

If there even is an afterlife.

Pavel always tells me to live life to the fullest and not to worry about death because once I pass, I won’t even know that I have passed. That there is no such thing as life after death. When I die, I die.

No pain. No hardship. Nothing. Not even darkness.

But this?

After I release a slow breath, the other wolf cuddles up beside me. I lay back down and rest my head on his body, breathing in his scent. A low breeze drifts through the meadow, the only sounds coming from the wolves around me.

No worries. No worries at all.

My lips curl into a small smile. It is so peaceful. So—

“Where is he?” someone shouted, snapping me out of my dream.

I blinked my eyes open and stared at the bathroom ceiling, lying completely naked on the cold floor. After groaning softly, I pushed myself off my back and leaned onto my hands, freezing water dripping off my skin.

“Where the fuck is that asshole?!” Davix growled, closer this time.

What the hell is he doing here? Why am I in the bathroom? Where’s Cade?

The bathtub faucet continued pouring out water into the overflowing tub. An inch thick of water covered the floor and flooded out underneath the door to the hallway. My eyes widened, and I jumped up to shut the water off.

Oh God! Pavel will kill me for this!

Davix stomped up the stairs, his footsteps becoming louder and louder. Goose bumps prickled my skin. I sloshed around in the bathroom flood, grabbed a towel from the closet, and covered myself in it before he could barge in.

“Ember!” Davix snarled, banging on the door with his fist. “Let me in!”

“No!” I shouted, staring at all the water and wondering what the fuck I was going to do.
