His eyebrows rise. “You’re actually asking me this?”

“I just did.”

“You’ve asked four questions about a woman you supposedly have no interest in.”

“Answer this one.”

Sebastian laughs quietly and shakes his head.

“Nothing happened, Ross. We liked each other, but there wasn’t any real chemistry.”

I keep my tone even. “Nothing?”

His amusement deepens.

“Nothing sexual, if that’s what you’re trying very hard not to ask.”

“I wasn’t.”

“You were.”

I pick up my fork again. “You’re enjoying this.”

“Immensely,” Sebastian says.

“For the record, I kissed her once. Maybe twice. That was as far as it went. We figured out pretty quickly that we worked better as friends.”

The tension at the base of my neck eases before I can prevent it. Sebastian watches me closely.

“You’re relieved,” he says.

“I’m not.”

“You are,” he says.

“You’re imagining things.”

He gives me an incredulous look.

“I shared a womb with you, Ross. You’re going to have to do better than that.”

I almost smile despite myself.

“That sentence alone is reason enough to end this conversation.”

“I’m not finished.”

“I am.”

Sebastian ignores me.

“Years ago, I told Blaire the two of you would either understand each other immediately or drive each other completely insane.”

I reach for my water. “That sounds unnecessarily dramatic.”

“It sounded accurate.” Sebastian takes another bite, then watches me over his fork.

“Based on the number of questions you’ve asked me today, I’m beginning to think both are happening at once.”
