“The project was supposed to be two weeks,” I say.

“That was the entire point. I could get in, handle the work, and leave.”

“And now?”

“Five weeks, probably.”

“What?”

“There are additional records they need from Geneva, and the Trust review is going to take longer than expected. Charlotte’s arrival has been pushed too.”

Chloe exhales.

“That’s a hell of a jump.”

“It is.”

“What about the boys?”

“I’m working on it.”

“Are your parents okay staying longer?”

“They will be,” I say.

“They love being with the boys, and they’re already settled in. I just need to make sure Hannah can extend her schedule and that everything still works with school and activities.”

“And Erica’s there?”

“Yes.”

“You have backup,” she says.

“I know.”

Chloe’s voice softens.

“That doesn’t mean you have to like being stuck there longer.”

“I don’t.”

There is a pause.

Then Chloe asks, “And Ross?”

I close my eyes.

“He’s very present.”

“That sounds exactly like what you texted me.”

“I was trying to be understated.”

“You failed.”

I almost laugh.

“He’s involved in the meetings,” I say.
