I end the call and sit there for a moment before dialing Erica. She answers over the sound of traffic.

“I’m walking, so if I get loud, blame the city.”

“I can hear that.”

“What happened?” she asks.

“How do you know something happened?”

“Because you don’t call me at this hour unless something happened.”

I rub my eyes.

“The project got extended.”

“How long?”

“Five weeks.”

Erica groans.

“I knew two weeks sounded too clean.”

“I did not need that.”

“I’m sorry.”

“No, you’re not.”

“No, I’m not,” she replies.

I almost smile.

“I have to rearrange everything,” I say.

“You can.”

“I know.”

“Your parents are there,” she says.

“Yes,” I say.

“Hannah’s there.”
