"He promised me an actual birthday trip," Jane says.

"I delivered one," Sebastian replies. "Eventually."

Jane looks at me.

"You see what I'm dealing with."

"I'm familiar with the type," I say.

Ross looks across the table at me, but he lets the comment pass without turning it into another exchange. The restraint makes me smile. Sebastian is still Sebastian, only steadier now. Jane fits beside him naturally. Ross is relaxed in a way I rarely see in London, and the four of us settle into the evening without needing to force anything.

By the time dessert is finished, I've stopped bracing myself. Sebastian reaches for Jane's hand beneath the edge of the table. The gesture is small, but Ross notices immediately.

"We actually have something to tell you," Sebastian says.

Ross turns toward them. Jane smiles.

"We're having a baby," she says.

For a second, Ross simply stares at them. Then his entire face changes.

"You're serious?" he asks.

"We found out before Tuscany," Sebastian says.

"We wanted to wait until we were home before telling everyone."

Ross pushes back from the table and goes to his brother first, pulling him into a brief embrace before turning to Jane.

"Congratulations," Ross says. "Both of you."

The happiness in his voice is completely unguarded. I stand when Jane turns toward me.

"Congratulations," I tell her as I hug her.

"That's wonderful."

"Thank you," Jane says.

"We're still getting used to saying it."

Sebastian rests a hand against the back of her chair after she sits again.

"And before you ask," he says to Ross, "yes. We know."

Ross looks at him.

"Know what?"

Sebastian smiles.

"It's a boy."

Ross laughs and grips his brother's shoulder.

"Jesus. Congratulations."

Jane shakes her head, smiling.
