Sebastian. Five missed calls.
My chest tightens before I even reach for the phone.
Blaire sits up beside me. “What is it?”
“I don’t know,” I say.
I swipe through the notifications.
Seven missed calls now.
The warmth from a few seconds ago disappears instantly.
I call him back.
Sebastian answers before the first full ring.
“Ross.”
Something in his voice puts me on my feet.
“What happened?” I ask.
There’s noise behind him, voices, movement, something metallic clattering in the distance.
“Dad had a heart attack,” Sebastian says.
“They’ve taken him to St. Thomas’. Mum’s already there.”
For a second, I don’t move.
“What?”
“It happened at the house,” Sebastian says.
“He collapsed. The ambulance got there fast, but they’re still working on him.”
My body reacts before my mind catches up. I reach for my jacket from the chair, already calculating the fastest route across the city.
“How long ago?” I ask.
“Maybe forty minutes.”
“Why didn’t anyone call me sooner?”
“We did,” Sebastian says. “I’ve been calling you.”
I look down at the missed calls again.
“Right.”
Blaire is already standing now, watching my face.
“I’m leaving,” I tell Sebastian.
“Text me the exact entrance.”
“I will.”
