My Ex’s Christmas Scandal

This time, I take it. I don’t open it, though. I don’t want to think about Reid right now. I’ll look at it later, when I have the stomach for it.

I scoop my book off the floor and grab my tea. There’s no way I’ll be able to read tonight. I’m too wrung out. Bed it is.

“Oh, one more thing,” Zander says as I’m leaving. “Tomorrow night, we’re going to a Christmas party for one of Jarek’s acquaintances.”

Jarek shrugs. “I think it’ll be fun.”

“I’ll make sure your suits are pressed,” I say.

“We’d like you to come with us.”

I blink at Zander. “To a Christmas party for one of your friends?”

“Not exactly a friend,” Jarek responds. “But yes.”

“I don’t have anything to wear.” I’m not completely ruling it out. A swanky holiday party sounds amazing, but I only packed work clothes. Hell, I don’t think I own a cocktail dress nice enough for a party with these three.

“We’ll take care of the dress,” Pascal says. “We’d really like you to come. You can go as Zander’s plus-one. And I think you’ll enjoy it. It’s a winter wonderland theme.”

I think it over. If they’re handling the dress, I’m out of excuses. And technically, it’s not that weird to bring your concierge to a party. Someone has to make sure the guys don’t lose their coat-check tickets.

“Okay.” I nod. “Thank you. I’d love to.”

“Great.” Zander looks pleased. “The jet leaves at six tomorrow night.”

“The jet? The party isn’t here?”

He shakes his head. “Aspen.” His tone makes it sound like flying to a party is completely normal.

In my world, getting to a party means a twenty-minute drive with the hope that I can find parking. But this isn’t just my world anymore. I’m part of theirs now too.

CHAPTER 22

PASCAL

When Nina opens her bedroom door, she looks sleepy, like my knock woke her.

“Sorry if I woke you.” I try not to stare at the thin sleep shirt clinging to the curve of her breasts.

“It’s alright.” She glances over my shoulder at the woman standing behind me. “Is everything okay?”

“Yes. Melinda is here to fit you for a dress for tonight.”

“A personal fitting?” Suddenly she’s wide awake. “You don’t need to go to all that trouble. Something off the rack would be fine.”

I huff a laugh. “Off the rack definitely won’t be fine. Not for this party. Trust me, you’re in good hands. Melinda’s the best stylist in town.”

Nina opens the door wider to let her in.

“Good morning, Ms. Adler. I’ve brought a few dresses for you to try. Once you choose one, I’ll have it fitted in time for tonight.”

Nina smiles politely. “Thank you.”

I turn to leave the women to it, then stop in the doorway when Nina calls my name.

“Pascal, you’re not staying?”

I figured my job was arranging the stylist. I didn’t expect an invitation. But how could I possibly turn down a private fashion show?
