She shook her head, confusion in her eyes. “This has gotten out of hand. I don’t want either of you.”
“Everything is clear to me,” Boros said. “This is not your business to meddle in, human.”
Solan slowly raised himself away from the Galaxar guard, keeping the blade pointed at him as he stepped back. “We will fight.”
“You can’t,” Vegas said. “You’ve been injured.”
Solan felt blood trickling from the wounds where the sharp blades had struck him. “I am battle capable.”
Boros laughed cruelly. “I agree. The winner of the fight gets Vegas.”
“I’m nobody’s prize in this ridiculous battle.”
Solan saw how confused Vegas was. It must be because of the blow Boros gave her. When she had a moment to think about this, she would see it made sense. When he fought Boros and won, there would be no need for her to be afraid. She could be with him. She would be his mate. He would protect her with his dying breath.
“I agree to the terms.” Solan focused on Vegas. “I will win this fight for you.”
Chapter 12
Vegas groaned and shook her head. “You bull-headed alien. You don’t need to win any fight for me. I’m capable of handling my own battles.”
“You needed my assistance.” Solan glanced at Boros, who had a smug grin on his face. “You were being attacked.”
“I was about to call for help.” Vegas’s fingers touched her swollen cheek, and she winced. “Boros would not have gotten what he wanted.”
“You didn’t need to call for help,” Solan said. “I am here. I will always be here if you want me to be.”
“Pathetic! The human does not want you,” Boros said. “She would much prefer to be with a brigadier.”
“Hold on.” Vegas raised her hands. She needed to get this nightmare of a situation under control. If her boss discovered what was going on, there’d be hell to pay. “No one is being with anyone. Boros, you have made a mistake. I’m not available to be anybody’s mate. You overstepped the mark and broke your agreement with My Single Alien.”
Boros sneered at her. “I do not honor agreements with alien races as primitive as yours.”
“Then you have wasted my time and yours.” Vegas knew her way around the legal agreements they supplied to aliens using their services. She could legally get rid of Boros and restore order. That way, Diadora wouldn’t question what had gone on, and Vegas wouldn’t end up squashed underneath an alien who stank of musk ox and baby oil.
“My time is not wasted. I have selected you,” Boros said.
Solan growled at that comment.
“Not only have you broken an agreement with us, but you have also assaulted me and my colleague.” Vegas had kept a close eye on Heather, who’d remained unconscious throughout the fight. She had seen her chest was moving up and down steadily, so she had to assume there was no serious damage.
“Your colleague was interfering in a matter that did not concern her,” Boros said.
“There was no need to attack her.” Vegas edged toward Heather. “I will be informing the station authorities. In the meantime, you need to pack your things. You are no longer welcome here.”
“You want us both to leave?” Solan sounded shocked.
Vegas didn’t miss the puppy dog expression on his face. Why wouldn’t he get the hint? “No. Boros, you and your troop must leave. You will face questioning by the authorities at a later date.”
“This is an outrage. You’re not punishing Solan because you want to be with him.” Derision traced through Boros’s words. “You are choosing a less capable Galaxar to mate with.”
“For the love of all things comet, I am choosing no one.” Vegas reached Heather and ducked down to check her pulse. It was strong. A little of the panic clutching at her chest subsided. “But I am in charge of ensuring those who break their agreement with My Single Alien leave. You have done that.”
“I will not leave here without a mate,” Boros said. “And I shall not leave until I have had my battle with Solan.”
“I agree,” Solan said. “The challenge has been accepted on both sides. We are to fight.”
“Fight on your own time.” Vegas grabbed Heather under the arms and dragged her into a sitting position against the wall. She gently tapped her cheek. “Heather, it’s time to wake up if you want to avoid being stuck in the middle of a fight between two idiot aliens.”
