“I only have a couple of things to do. The guys will be pretty busy though.”

“You’re not gonna pitch in?” I questioned.

He chuckled. “Hell no. They got it.”

“But you were gonna help me?”

“You’re my girl. They work for me. See the difference?” he asked, lifting his brows.

“Oh, you’re that kind of boss.”

“I’m the best boss. I even got a coffee mug that says so.”

“Let me guess, you bought it yourself.” I grinned.

“I see you got jokes this morning.”

“I get one in here and there,” I said as I passed him the coffee and boxes of food.

“Well don’t quit your day job.” He chuckled.

“Don’t make me take those cinnamon rolls back,” I teased.

“You wouldn’t do that to your man.”

“Watch me.”

“Can you get a sitter this weekend? I want to take you on a real date.”

“I think my mom is off.”

“If not, my daughter is coming home from college. I’m getting her to keep an eye on Vick while I get out of the house for a little while.”

“I was actually going to invite you two to dinner tonight if you don’t have plans. It was good to see Theo with someone his age.”

“Right, Vick has a few cousins his age, so that helps.”

“So, is it a date?”

“Sure. What time should we be there?”

“How’s six?”

“That’ll give me time to get out of here and get myself together. Should I bring anything?”

“Just your appetite. Are either of y’all allergic to anything?”

“No, ma’am. I’ll eat anything, and Vick is a carnivore.”

“Good. I’m excited.”

“But that didn’t answer my question about Friday night.”

“We can get together. That actually sounds good.”

Two hours later, Rhonda and I were well into the swing of things. I had already sold out of honey buns by the time one of Quinton’s mechanics came out of the building. His guys loved the buns as much as they loved the coffee and sandwiches.

“Hey, Ms. Shiloh. Let me get one of them butter buns and a black coffee.”
