“That’s old news, Dad. I been doing good.”
“Well, keep up the good work.”
“If I’m good, can I get a new game?”
“If you don’t act like you got some sense, you gotta get a job. How about that?” I asked him.
“Dad, you always say that.”
I raised my shoulders. “If you can’t do school, maybe you can work.”
“Well for now, I’m about to go play with my partner,” he said, opening the door and climbing out of the truck.
“I thought so.” I laughed as I got out and followed him to the door.
I wasn’t even ashamed of how ready I was to see Shiloh. I was so crazy about her that it wasn’t even funny. Even more than that, I was grateful that our sons were getting along. I was sure we could agree on that one. We took the short drive to Shiloh’s apartment complex. I parked and got out with Victor running ahead of me.
“Dad which number did you say?” Victor asked once he made it to the breezeway.
“It’s 9B.”
That was his cue to jog to the right door and knock before I could catch up with him.
“Hey, Victor.” Shiloh greeted him as she swung the door open.
“Hey, Ms. Shiloh. Is Theo home?”
“Yes. He’s in the back in his room,” she said, right before he shot past her into the house.
For a second, I was speechless. My baby was breathtaking. She had taken out the long, wavy blonde hair that looked so good on her and wore shoulder-length natural curls that I wanted to run my fingers through. I loved a woman with natural hair. Shiloh with her soft, curly afro was a whole different level of sexy.
“Damn, you’re beautiful,” I muttered.
I loved making her blush. “Why thank you.”
I stepped closer and touched her face before softly kissing her lips. “I love your hair like that. Is that your natural hair?”
“Yes. I like to let it breathe every now and then. This is just a wash and go.”
“I don’t know what that means, but I want you to do it all the time. You look perfect.”
“Thank you again. I’m glad you like it.”
“I love it. If the boys weren’t here, I would show you just how much,” I said, letting my hands slide down to her waist.
“Well, the boys are here. Don’t forget that.”
“How could I?” I shook my head.
“I see they’re getting along just fine,” she noted.
“Yep. My prayers have been answered.”
“What do you mean by that?” she asked as I followed her inside.
“I knew if the boys couldn’t get along, I didn’t have a chance with you.”
“I didn’t even think about that, but I’m glad that they do.”
